Mass animal deaths has happened regularly for far longer than that.

The press only started making a fuss last year.

Hardly proof that THIS year is the end of the word - it could have been LAST year and we didn't notice!

Load of rubbish. these things happen all the time but are never reported. Now idiots are linking the two for no reason. I could link random events and then claim to be the ICE Lord who has come to rule the Universe.

    According to CNN:
Someone went into a large roost of blackbirds in Beebe, Arkansas, as the clock struck midnight Saturday and set off fireworks, contributing to the deaths of scores of blackbirds, a state wildlife spokeswoman said.

Not exactly a precursor of the apocalypse, then?

What are all the signs anyway?

When good is made to appear bad and bad is made to appear good, some of that applies but it's probably always applied

True. Anyway, the birds in my garden seem quite happy at the moment and are enjoying my nuts. I shall be careful not to set off any fireworks near them.

    ETA: Particularly this one...

I'm pretty sure the end of the world didn't happen last year after this happened. Did it? Maybe it did and I didn't notice.

My next door neighbour's dog killed one of his budgies this morning. Does that count?

How did I predict that a thread like this would pop up at the beginning of 2012?....the first of many to come.

Why don't people keep their fears and anxieties to themselves- or amongst the like-minded- rather than trying to project them onto others?

I think a fairly plausible explanation has been given for the blackbirds' deaths that has nowt to do with an impending apocalypse.

I expect that DS will combust into panic in the last few months of this year. I haven't yet decided if that'll be amusing or just very, very tedious, but I'm tending towards the latter.

... Twice on new years eve.

Maybe they flew near where fireworks were exploding...

    That would be very ill-advised.
