Scariest moments of your life?

Aside from obvious ones like loved ones falling ill or dying, what are some scary moments that really shook you up at the time?

When I was a thirteen year old in the mid 1990s, I did dance classes for a while. One night, I was the last to go home because my taxi was really late in arriving. Instead of waiting with me even though I was, in the eyes of the law, a child (under 16), the dance teacher buggered off in her car and I was left in a really dodgy area of town, completely alone, at night. I was terrified, even though I was quite mature...I knew it was a bad area and could hear drunks just around the corner. Being alone made it scarier than it would have other wise been. There was a phone box near by so in desperation I made a reverse charge call to my grandad and begged him to find out where the taxi was. He was really furious that I'd been left on my own like and, looking back on it, I was surprised the dance teacher did it. I know I wasn't really her responcibility, but I've been to other evening clubs as a child where the people in charge always waited until absolutely every last child had gone away safely.

Anyway, when I look back on really scary moments, that's up near the top.

What about you?

10/11 years ago my sister and I were innocently playing nearby the woodlands, out of nowhere this man dressed in complete black approaches us and asks "do you pray at night?", me being young and naive I was about to say no, I noticed something shiny with a handle- possibly a weapon he was reaching for in his inner pocket. My sister had enough sense and immediately covered my mouth and hesitantly answered "yes we do, every night!", find it funny looking back but ever since I've been wary of religious fanatics lol.

strange moments which stand out like photographs in my mind -

aged about 11 stepped out in front of a car, can still hear its brakes,

a couple of years ago, did not see a bus(don't ask) and it sounded its horn and i stepped back as its mirror whistled past my ear

falling flat onto my back from a high branch in a tree, thought my back was broken

getting stuck in a high tree and thinking i would never get down, and there was noone around - had to wait for rescue
    (i liked climbing trees!)

about a year ago, going up a stone staircase, a couple of flights up stepped to one side to let someone go past, lost my balance, started to fall backwards, and just grabbed the rail in time

things which seemed scary which probably weren't happened as well - just after 7/7, in norwich, at lunchtime, there was someones rucksack left in the street outside a shop, noone around, people called police, but i had visions of it blowing up at any second

also scared but not for myself, also in norwich - on a very busy street a girl let go of her dogs lead and it darted out into the road, nearly got hit by a car, and ran off down the street on the other side with people chasing it.

    A few years ago.

On a dirty weekend away with the then fiance, I phone home, as you do, to let my Mam know we had arrived safely.

Mam said there was someone at home wanting to speak with me. Assuming it was a friend/neighbour wanting to congratulate me on the engagement, I took the call.

Nope, it was a policeman looking for me, seems my 'fiance' had gone to the police and accused me of beating her up.

She had arranged the weekend away as a way of avoiding them.

So, I'm hundreds of miles away alone in a hotel room with this psycho.

I got the next train home alone. She was also pregnant, but thankfully, that had been faked too!

Loads of friends wanted me to sue her for defamation of character, but I didn't want to see her again.

I got my legs stuck in between the steps and the back panel of my sister's cabin bed. My dad had to drill me out....looking back, it's quite funny but as a 4 year old I can assure you, it wasn't lol.

I was trapped in this really small cave type thing, it was really dark and scary and there was like water all around me. It was really claustrophobic, I was scrabbling to get out, i could barely see, and eventually I saw this opening and just had to get out....

then a midwife slapped me!

I had a bad choking fit at a bus stop once and everyone was more concerned about keeping their distance (the other people waiting were eldely, they were acting like I was plotting to mug them or something), even though I was obviously in serious trouble. It was only by pure luck that the blockage cleared on it's own and I was okay in the end. I was was very shocked though. The experience taught me that I must never expect anything from anyone.

One was being attacked by two lads i thought were my friends, i had known them for years and trusted them, i remember thinking, "I know who they are and where they live, they are going to kill me so i wont tell".

Second, going out with a friend and some women (about 40 years old i was about 25), started talking to us. We thought they were being friendly, and when we left they appeared in the car park where my friend had parked (we didint drink), and we smiled and said "Hi". Next thing they ran at us, one grabbed my friend and started smashing her head into the ground and said to me "Your next", and her three big mates came and got me, they pulled me onto the floor and kicked hell out of me. When i screamed at them asking why they were doing it she replied, really evilly "Because we want to, no other reason darling". I have never been in town at night since and am now 37 years old:(.

Aged 9, was in Indonesia due to my Dad's work, the island Java to be precise, and we took a trip to an active volcano inside the shell of once much larger one (forget the name of the place now :o). We were on the ridge right on the top of the active one, looking down seeing the steam/etc, and I was running along it - it was not even and fairly rocky. My Dad screamed at me for doing this as I could have fallen and since then I've always been careful with my feet ;).

Wasn't scared at the time I was running, was just scared at the thought of what might have happened afterwards !

One night I heard someone shout 'F*** Off' then a bang. I got out of bed to have a look and saw someone run away.

I got a text from my neighbour about 1 minute after saying 'A guy was looking up at your window, don't worry, I threw a bottle at him.'

    That was pretty freaky!

I was kind of kidnapped onto a boat. Long story but it was terrifying and half my fault and a stupid result of drinking too much.

I was also in Tampa, Florida, lost, at 2am in the morning - that was scary. Especially as there was a shooting that night.

This is probably going to sound funny but it was frightning at the time,

i had parked in a backstreet car park somehwere, in the afternoon, noone around, but i wasnt bothered. When i returned to the car there was a bloke leaning on it, who asked me for money, he looked like a typical homeless person, very scruffy, i gave him a pound, he said "thanks mate", and went to leave.

As i started the engine i was suddenly aware of him trying to open the car door, i just reached over quickly and locked it before he was able to, suddenly overcome by a sense that this may not be a good situation.I caught a glimpse of his eyes as he bent and stared in the side window at me and they looked like nobody lived in them although his expression was not mean or anything - just indifferent.

I quickly left the parking space for the exit (only afterwards realising that i could have run over his foot, no idea if i did, i was that set on getting away) and as I rejoined the road, i saw him in my rearview mirror, stumbling towards the car with his arms outstretched.

I could not shake the thought that it was a zombie.I know that is stupid but that is the image i was left with and i was quite shaken by it.

When I was a young kid, about 14, my sister and I went minnow trapping. We got lost along the river bank finding a place to fish from. She was younger than me and was getting quite frightened - I didn't want her to start crying so was acting all brave. At one point I jumped down from the top of the bank to the river edge, looked around and saw the mud was completely covered in bees. I was puzzled, then looked up and saw several bee hives above the bank - the penny click just as they started swarming towards me - I scrambled up and ran, shouting for my sister to run too. She was screaming 'why, what's wrong' and I just kept telling her to run.

The bees were following me in a big swarm, just like in the cartoons, and I knew if my sister looked back she would be terrified. Eventually we outran them and got to safety.

Then the adrenaline left me and I was so frightened I could have died. Was plucking bee stings out of my head for days.

Thank you :). The lads who attacked me well, im ashamed to say i didnt report them, i was 14 and thought if i told what happened all my mates would fall out with me(one of the lads was my friends brother) and my parents would be angry, looking back i should have done :(.

The women were never found, we didnt know their names or anything, and although we went to the police after casualty the police sadly seemed to dismiss it as "A drunken town fight", which anybody could see it wasnt, plus with no names they said it would be difficult to find them.

Interesting thing is about 4 years later i read in my local paper about a woman being jailed for viciously beating an 18 year old girl up and found out it was the same woman who had led the attack on me, apparently the woman was well known in this town (not by me as i dont socialise much), as being a well known drug dealer who had her kids taken off her for abusing them physically, so i suppose she got her come-uppance eventually, but she will be out by now

A jail sentence isn't harsh enough for anyone. It's always the victims who have to deal with it!
