1. ITV testing new S2 transponder.. ITV is now testing a new transponder in DVB-S2. The frequency on 11.052 H is configured as if it was an HD mux, but is currently running test cards with the same channel structure as it had before Christmas. No info is known yet as to what ITV intend to do with the capacity.

2. The 2nd MUX on Saorview launched on 16 December 2013 bringing RTÉ ONE HD and some test cards for future HD, SD and radio services. There are also two test cards on the 9ºE Saorsat service as well. What these will eventually become is not yet known, but they are believed to be place holders for TG 4 HD (expected to launch in 2014), possibly TV 3 HD as well and further SD channels.

3. Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) abandons plans to launch four DTT commercial multiplexes on Saorview in the Republic.

Cheers Timo (from last week's thread) on the 11.464H SES demo reception report. I wonder if SES are doing their own tests with 8PSK modulation using FEC 3/4 as up until now all 8PSK on UK spot TP's have been 2/3. ITV's new S2 converted TP is also using 3/4, it will give the broadcasters a netto bitrate increase of 5mb.

Not to sound cynical but for the BBC that's another HD channel, considering the poor quality bitrates they've reduced their HD services down to :D

It would upset a few more expats too, as the higher FEC would require another 1dB or so of signal to lock...

Can anyone speculate what SES will be doing with these? At the moment it's running a promo for the company. Only thing it could be, due to the SD & HD service is Spike TV? Does anyone know if Viacom use SES?

I was wondering if that was why you may not be getting lock on 11464H?

I do wonder if this TP is purely for SES FEC testing as 3/4 has previously not been used with 8PSK modulation. Time will tell.

So the mux on 12.545 H has ceased now. I wonder what will go on it in its place?

    It doesn't make much sense to me but here is your answer, 12.545 H, 22.000, 5/6, DVB-S, QPSK is now a copy of 11.582 H, 22.000, 5/6, DVB-S, QPSK.

Any idea as to whats going on?

Yep, there's a "ARQIVA UKI458 P1 on 11.642 V, 27.500, 5/6, DVB-S, QPSK, looks like jimbo forgot to include it in the opening post of this thread.

I assume the label is there just for testing purposes (although could be wrong), it will probably disappear and get replaced with a proper (or should I say numbered) label in due course.

My 1.8m dish is too small for any 2F/2E UK spot transponders. It used to get some 2D UK spots but not these new generation satellites. 3-4m or larger dishes are now needed in Helsinki. Even some 2F/2E European beams are difficult now on a 1.8m.

ITV are also using FEC 3/4 8PSK on 11053H aren't they?

Yep, ITV's TP63 is using 3/4 FEC in 8PSK. I suspect that the five services on it are being used for testing purposes by Freesat and Sky to check across a range of STB's there's not too much phase error and how good a reduction to 3/4 works in the UK.

Although not directly pertinent to Sky I see that the L-DTPS licence for That's Oxford has been further amended to extend the "must launch" date to 26 March 2015.

It was originally 5 November 2014 before it was amended/extended to today's date. Now it has been given a further two months to launch.

Bodes well doesn't it. Another shining example of the success that is Local TV. :D

PS Your TV Manchester has a current "must launch" date of next Wednesday 4 February but hasn't even been granted a L-DTPS licence yet so looking unlikely that will happen either.
