Indeed - although I wasn't quite sure if he was going to tell her or ask her (or something inbetween) - whatever, he was neatly pre-empted & had all the wind knocked out of his sails!
Well, in his work he's used to making deductions based on evidence and observations and being in possession of information, and deciding what others should be told. Finding that his daughter was already aware of something he'd only just discovered might make him wonder about his deductive capabilities. She was not only aware but saw it as of no great significance.

Shows up the generation gap as much as anything else...... (look at the anguish suffered by Angus's father). Also I'm wondering if folk living that kind of remote island life might not be quite so comfortable with an out gay son (or am I completely out of line here? If so, I apologise.....)?

That's good news, but I wonder who will write the scripts? Ann Cleeves has only written 4 novels in the Shetland series, and that was one more than was originally intended.

Good news. But it's getting like Midsomer. Six murders in the past 2 years. In reality - only two that I know of in the last 30 years. This one I remember well:
