Phew! For a moment I thought you meant that the BBC had produced it.
I wonder if Danes might be sensitive about the subject and therefore hypercritical? I'll give it a chance but I do prefer thrillers.
The preview I read says "what will probably draw most BBC4 viewers to the show will be the familiarity of the cast" but the main attraction for me in the Scandidramas has been the very unfamiliarity of the cast. I was very upset to see my beloved, wicked Strange turn up as an anodyne character in Borgen, and there were others.
I've really gotten into my Danish Drama over the last few years, and oddly enough it reassuring to have the same actors on screen. Watch more than one Danish TV Drama and you can't but help see the same faces over and over again. It appears to be a very small pool they draw from (but I'm not complaining!) Plus they generally don't seem to be type cast as in they play very different parts each time they pop up.

They certainly aren't! But that was the problem with Strange, who had made such a huge impression on this jaded heart I didn't want him to be anyone else.
What i like about The Legacy is that there is a lot of new young talent in it and not that many actors from say Borgen/Forbrydelsen and Broen.
1864 have been killed in the press because it is utterly unrealistic, full of cliches and with a cringe worthy dialogue at times.
Oh yeah at some point they also had one of the soldiers perform a magic healing by pulling an icecube out of the wound of an injured soldier and then make him eat it.
Like i said Ole Bornedal messed this one up. Normally DR series have a writers room with 2-3 writers for each episode who are experienced and make each episode has some satisfying moments. Bornedal rejected that approach and wrote then entire thing himself as one long 8'th hour movie.
Well you will see for yourself at BBC4 if you can stand it for all 8 episodes.
Congratulations Sky Arts for running the whole hour without a commercial break. Hope they keep this up for the rest of the series.
No, they made up for things this week by having as many ad breaks as possible.
Am I the only one still watching this, by the way?
I'm sticking with it, but I'm not looking forward to watching it in the way I usually do with Scandi dramas.

Bit harsh that. If you expected a historic documentary instead of a TV drama then I guess you would be feeling this way. You must really have hated Matador and Krøniken as well. If, however, you sat down and watched 1864 as a drama series with base in real events added the odd bit of modern twist to fit a 2014 telly viewer and still felt this way I must admit I feel rather sorry for you and your expectations. It was a very good filmed, acted and directed series and if you took your nationalist glasses off for a second and watched it for what it actually is then you may feel differently.
For what little it is worth I reckon the series will get a better reception abroad, including not least the UK, as few people outside DK will be as uptight about Danish history as the historians and right-wing politicians you so happily fall back on in your negative review. Why not make people make up their own minds instead of filling their heads with a very one-sided, negative review.
The only issue I have with 1864 is that I am not sure how BBC 4 will be able to show the series unedited and if they decide that the series is too hardcore for British viewers and are allowed to cut the most horrific scenes out then the storyline will lose a lot. I hope they will show it in full. And I for one am looking forward to watching it again.
I just found the Legacy on Virgin, Sky Arts catchup tonight. Looking forward to watching it over Christmas along with. The Bridge Series 2 which is on my Christmas list...:)
My Mum enjoys watching these Scandinavian dramas such as The Killling and Borgan. I have not watched any episodes of this particular series yet. I must catch up with it as I do enjoy watching World Cinema anyway. Is it any good?
I thought after the first episode I wouldn't like this, but I kept watching & I have been pleasantly surprised at how good this is. The only problem I have is that the subtitles can be very fast.
As a big fan of The Killing, Borgen etc. I had high expectations but was not disappointed.
Excellent cast, especially Trine Dryholm as Gro who I find quite mesmerising when she is on screen. For a country with such a small population Denmark seems to have more than it's fair share of artistic talent.

But their was has been mixed reviews about it not being much of a Killing.
And others a very good lite Danish tv show.
I just hope it not another Mammon flop.
Hello you! I thought you might be lurking about, seeing as we've got another Euro drama coming up Looking forward to this, I bet

Could be very good.
But am I the only one who thinks the title of this thread should be changed?
It's very deceiving.
You're right. Title needs to be changed since the show is on Sky Arts 1 and not on the BBC.
It's shown again at 11:30 tomorrow night
BTW does anyone know the name of the song that was used on the trailler??

That would be Rae Morris. She is very good!

Best to watch all Sky shows on Catch up. No ad breaks.

Legacy 2 kicks off here in DK January 1st.
It's just a pity that it's on Sky Arts as it would get more viewers on BBC4
I've been recording it so I can fast forward through the ad breaks though but Im up to date now
There's no ad breaks if you get it from Catch Up.
