Interesting question posed by Mike Atherton during the last test at Headingley - if you were to put the Yorkshire players for England back into the Yorkshire team, and replace them with the next guys in line - who would win in a test match scenario between England and Yorkshire?

It would be a tough one to call right now, England are well and truly in the doldrums, whereas the Yorkshire side is looking very strong indeed.

    Thoughts anyone?

Didn't look that strong on Saturday against Notts. Made a right pigs ear of that run chase. :(

That was a 20 over thrash around.

Former Worcestershire batsman and academy manager Damian D'Oliveira has died from cancer, the club have said.

The 53-year-old, son of the late Worcestershire and England legend Basil D'Oliveira, played for the county between 1982 and 1995.

During his career he scored more than 9,000 first-class runs, with a best single innings of 237.

He also discovered many of the club's first-team squad, which includes his son Brett.

    That's good to hear

Saw the scorecard and it looks a very slow scoring rate by Lancs

Normally a quick scoring ground at Taunton I thought

I umpired him as a player and for him as a manager.

Stokes smashing a rapid 49 in the easy T20 win against Derbyshire, no pressure though. shows why he was likely wanted by the IPL.
But Durham need better T20 form to grab a top 4 spot.

Débutante Cork jnr got smashed out of the park by Mustard.

Not a big county cricket man but I am getting more into it as I get older. I was listening to the commentary of Middlesex and Northamptonshire when the commentator - on behalf of Middlesex - described Surrey as the county that cannot be named.

Does rivalry really exist in the county game like that? I thought it was too genteel for that.

hales doing what was asked of him since he came back to notts

think hes got to be really putting pressure on the selectors to consider him for ODIs , we already know what hes capable of in t20 and I think after today hes averaging 60+ in the championship this year with 2 100s and 3 50s in 11 innings

Its jest, they need the rivalry to create interest. I caught most of the Durham commentary yesterday, the commentary here succeeds by not being mundane.

The small commentary teams often succeed in being more mundane than how TMS can be, at least prior to Swanns arrival. I'd say that happens when they stick too rigidly to talking about cricket 6+ hours a day.
Its a tough new job being a county commentator.

Well done Trescothick on another hundred - this time against Lancashire.

So in his 14 Innings in the County Championship this season has now 3 hundreds and 4 fifties. :)

Somerset are 193/2 (78 overs) (Trescothick 107 not out and Petersen 57 not out) against Lancashire at the close of play.

We (Somerset) still trail by 73 runs.

Has to be one of his most astute centuries every. Scoring was a difficult 1 per over for ages and did not get a lot past 2 by the end of the day.

And if Lancashire don't strike with the new ball, that will soon read you lead by 73 runs (with power to add)

Think we may need some generous declarations to get a result at a rain affected Oval
Only one day to go and Hants still trail Surrey by 307 at 167/3 in their 1st innings
    Jason Roy got another ton

Just saw the catch from last night's T20 game

Another stunner from the Lyth/Finch combo!

Similar to the Old Trafford one , but this time Finch had to dive to get the 'flick back' and caught it inches from the ground one-handed

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nLzvZPd8QMU

    Becoming the norm......

Nothing much happening for Somerset, though elsewhere Notts have gone from a commanding winning position to a more likely defeat.

For a while a 2 horse Notts Yorkshire race looked to be developing.

Warwickshire have beaten Nottinghamshire by three wickets. Very good result for Yorkshire.

Oh well a draw for Somerset.

Our next two games are in the T20 which are Glamorgan on friday and then Hampshire on sunday both are away.

Our next County Championship match starts on monday against Middlesex away.

Nearly a sell out at the Oval for the T20 game against Kent

We just had another cracking boundary catch, this time from Jason Roy

Caught it and was about to go over the rope and managed to throw it back into play and regained his balance and re-caught it

    Excellent

Hope Kent can get a few more than looks likely so we can see an exciting run chase from KP, Dilshan and Jason Roy

The way Jason Roy and Dilshan are going, KP may not get to the crease

    Chasing 156, Surrey are 79/0 in 6 overs :)

Jason Roy 52* in 25 balls

Yep, good close game at the Oval, could go either way. Impossible to say who's in front at this stage.
