Greatest Hits albums can harm a career but Rihanna's discography is really strong now, her album-a-year (ish) strategy is working out for her. I think in another year she'll deliver a killer tour as well. She only needs 3-4 hits per album plus a couple of high profile .feat. spots to keep relevant and build up a 3 Disc GH collection. I'm glad she doesn't take the position of credibility = writing your own stuff, her collaborations / guest spots show what a talented vocalist she is. Her vocal tone fits Eminem songs very well. This is where she's carved a niche I feel.

Not necessarily overdue but 1D are contracted to deliver a GH after two more albums (which could move to 1 more if they fold by then). I think they will have to do two discs - one of their early power pop & slushy ballads and the second of the pop-rock/folk/D&B sound they've moved towards. Looking at the list it's nice there won't be a tonne of covers or re-mixes. Of their current discography - and based on their Take Me Home and rumoured Where We Are tour setlists - I think it will go something like:

    Disc 1:
    What Makes You Beautiful
    One Thing
    Gotta Be You
    More Than This
I Would / Loved You First / She's Not Afraid
    C'mon, C'mon (live version)
    Little Things
If they want to please fans then a live version of They Don't Know About Us
    Last First Kiss (live version)
    Moments
    Summer Love
    Live While We're Young
One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) - (could move to Disc 2 or not be in)
Rock Me (live version) (could move to Disc 2)
    Kiss You
    Best Song Ever

    Disc 2:
    Story Of My Life
    Midnight Memories
    Don't Forget Where You Belong
Better Than Words / Through The Dark
You & I (could move to Disc 1)
Happily (could move to Disc 1)
Little White Lies / Why Don't We Go There
    4th album songs x 4
    5th album song x 4
    New songs x 2

Or a Disc 3 with a few songs from 4th & several of 5th albums + new songs. I expect there will also be a repackaged DVD of live shows.

Yeah, I'm surprised Rihanna hasn't released one. Also, Mariah Carey hasn't since 2001, and she's had a lot of hits since then.

Rihanna needs a concise collection like Madonna and the immaculate collection. A lot of singles listed are fan faves and moderate hits for me :

    Umbrella
    We Found Love
    Only Girl
    Don't Stop The Music
    Diamonds
    Disturbia
    Sos
    Pon De Replay
    Rude Boy
    S&M
    Where Have You Been?
    What's My Name
    Take a Bow
    Unfaithful
    Russian roulette
    Stay
    New
    New

    Disc 2 (deluxe only):

    Run This Town
    Live Your Life
    Who's That Chick
    All Of The lights
    Love The Way You lie
    The Monster
    Take Care
    Can't Remember To Forget You

All her best and biggest without too much filler.

Also if she continues Katy Perry will have one heck of a GH so far:

    I Kissed A Girl
    Hot N Cold
    thinking of you
    waking up In vegas
    California Gurls
    Teenage Dream
    Firework
    E.t
    Last Friday Night
    The One That got away
    part of me
    wide awake
    roar
    unconditionally
    dark horse

There are many different types of GH though

You have a singles collection which should contain all of the the singles (which was mine) or you have a best of, which The immaculate collection is

It can harm an act's career by making it look like they're past their peak. It also interrupts regular album releases and tours. I remember Texas being actively and vocally against their label releasing a greatest hits and hearing about execs threatening acts with them to keep them in line. Madonna did the right thing by calling her first GH The Immaculate Collection and then GHV2. Rihanna has a great discography now but she seems a bit too young? new? to release a GH. Maybe cleverer would be to do some sort of playlist on iTunes with a discount if you buy them all.

Whilst that is true a best of is a better reflection of her career as she has had as many misses as hits and TBH having a concise 16 track retrospective of all her biggest is much better and is a gateway for future fans to look back at her albums that contain her hits and more.

Whether you love them or hate them, when Coldplay get around to releasing their's, it will be pretty impressive. I'll keep it to a tracklist of 12, although they could feasibly have a double-cd release.

    2. Trouble
    3. In My Place
    4. The Scientist
    5. Clocks
    6. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face

    8. Fix You
    9. Viva la Vida
    10. Paradise
    11. Princess of China
    12. Magic

Feel free to disagree with my selections. :)

I know she's been a bit off the radar for her past 'proper' album, but Leona Lewis could easily have one if you included her singles and popular tracks, and had a new track or two. I thought it'd be good to have the title as one word to fit in with the rest of her studio albums, and also she had a mini-documentary called "Echo: A Reflection of Sound" so I used that for the title :)

    Leona Lewis - Reflection

    01. Bleeding Love
    02. Better in Time
    03. Collide
    04. I Got You
    05. I Will Be
    06. Happy
    07. Hurt
    08. Trouble
    09. Fireflies
    10. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
    11. Come Alive (instead of Lovebird, since she clearly hated that song haha)
    12. Footprints in the Sand
    13. Run
    14. New Track
    15. New Track

    Bonus Tracks / Deluxe tracks

    16. Forgive Me
    17. New Uptempo
    18. A Moment Like This
    19. Come Alive (Acoustic)
    20. Run (Radio One Live Lounge)
    21. One More Sleep (As a Christmas bonus track)

I was going for a one-disc collection. With a two-disc, you can cram a lot more on. I left off two of my absolute faves, Politik and Lovers in Japan. With a best of/greatest hits, it's cool to see what would make an accurate representation of an act's body of work. :)
