To me it was a bit of a step too far, just a random fantasy that has no relevance, the real amy knew nothing of it so it was just the Doctor deluding himself before he quickchanged.
Also smacked a bit of unoriginality. I thought Moffat would be more original to steal the last Doctor's "the last face you see is the first face you saw" idea.
And the little girl looked nothing like Catalan anyway...
But the main thing I took from it was it was the battle of the terrible wigs.
Matt's over the special was good to average.
Karan's was just a still ball of fur it seemed, not very realistic at allll....

I thought it was wonderful to see Amy again, she meant so much to the doctor,
Meant so much to him that during her time with him he went off on his own for 200 years then a few months later went off on his own for another 100 years.
Is that gonna be a thing now? At the end of Twelve, will he see Clara?
That could become tedious and predictable. It was a sweet moment, a little misplaced, I thought, but I found it worked better for Ten because not only was David Tennant leaving, but a lot of the crew were too, so going back to Ten and Rose was like going back to the beginning.
It felt like a stutter to me. I'm just wondering if this is going to be a recurring theme now.
I thought it was wonderful, the type of scene I'd hoped for but hadn't expected Moffat to write. It really brought the 11th Doctor's tenure full circle and closed a chapter perfectly. Now it's for Clara to bring him into the next...
I have to disagree it was the only thing I hated about the special it felt so forced that they only had her in it for the sake of having her in it.
It ruined what could have been a really great ending and great episode.
As far as I'm concerned the ending would have been ruined if it didn't have Amy in it. As it was, it felt slightly flat because we didn't get to see River...
Why did they have to have her in it for The Doctor anyway he had Clara with him to help him get through his regeneration it was the whole Martha isn't as good as Rose thing all over again.
Yes, in a way it was, but that's how it works - Rose was more important to the 10th Doctor than Martha, though he cared for them both, and likewise Amy was more important to the 11th Doctor than Clara. Amy was the first face he saw, the one who helped him become what he was, and therefore the one he was very attached to.
As far as I saw it it had absolutely nothing to do with helping him through the regeneration (there was nothing to suggest that at all), rather it was about saying one last goodbye to the person who was central to this incarnation of the Doctor before he became a different persona.
It was the clothing to me, the clothes she wore weren't typical 'Amy' clothes and the wig (how funny that both of them were wearing wigs). Oh and also I thought she looked older
I'm pretty sure the clothes were ones she's worn before...
A nice touch but hardly the "Legend" we were promised.
There's a whole other thread on this - the word 'legend' was used by a tabloid newspaper, hardly reknowned for its accuracy. And then hyped up on places such as here. No 'legend' was ever promised by anyone who matters.
To me it was a bit of a step too far, just a random fantasy that has no relevance
I don't think you can say it had no relevance - Amy was incredibly important to the 11th Doctor, it's hardly surprising she was the face he wanted to see just before he changed.
But the main thing I took from it was it was the battle of the terrible wigs.
Matt's over the special was good to average.
Karan's was just a still ball of fur it seemed, not very realistic at allll....
Karen's was made from her own hair. Looked fine to me.
So you're basically saying the impact Amy had on the doctor wasn't significant to 11 to get a "revisit". Now I asked impact on 11, not you.
I'm saying he had Clara with him but they acted like she wasn't at all important to him even though she did more for him than Amy ever did who all.
Clara was there though all 12 if his lives she died for him more than once but still Amy is the one who gets treated like she is every so great while all Amy ever did was sulk moan cry and bitch.
Plus as I said I don't feel The Doctor was Amy as that important in his life a she kept going off on his own for 200 years here another 100 years there (don't blame him having to see her everyday)
As someone who really doesn't like Amy and feels like she's the main reason I failed to enjoy Doctor Who from series 5 to 7a I'm undecided. I grew to like her a bit more towards the end of her run and understand her importance to the Doctor, plus it was a short and sweet scene, but it annoyed me that it pushed Clara out of the way quite awkwardly when she was there for him.

Maybe thats because she's a red head?
I happen to like red heads, I thought Amy was a good companion, but each to there own!
There is an old saying, you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time!
If you could please all of the people all of the time, then everyone would be happy, there would be no wars and peace would reign supreme! Unfortunately life isnt like that sorry.
The 11 DOCTOR, that regeneration, just as 10 had a good sulk about leaving and visited his past companions, and 11 said "he's a coming" and Clara asked who and said he's the doctor, obviously the doctor knows the difference between himself and himself
I thought the scene seemed out of place to be honest. Far too tacked on for me, and it also had very little emotional resonance. The character has gone, I just didn't get it.
To be honest, I never felt the emotional connection between Amy and the 'raggedy man' was really there once the Amy / Rory romance took over, and the writers seemed to feel it necessary to restate the strength of their marriage every single episode. Season 5, it worked: will Amy ditch Rory and run off with the Doctor? It all resolved nicely in the 'The Big Bang'. After that it was in the way. I felt like they were almost too scared to show a big bond between Amy and the Doctor in case it weakened the sense of unity they were trying to show with Amy and Rory. The Doctor essentially became a third wheel, which is when the so-called 'soap opera' elements become unwelcome in the show, in my opinion: when it is not relevant to the Doctor's story. He should always be at the core of everything. Asylum of the Daleks was the most egregious example: the Pond's marriage issues had nothing at all to do with anything else, and was there purely for emotional hits - but if it's not tied to the central drama, then it's just cheap melodrama, especially when everything reverts to the status quo with no character development at the end. It's like a form of emotional pornography. A tawdry love wank with a cheap and easy orgasm of no real substance at the end. That, to me, is not quality drama.
So given I felt the Ponds overstayed their relevance to the show by a full series and a half I don't think this gratuitous reappearance registered any sort of emotional reaction for me.

Something promised by The Daily Star.
A tabloid newspaper.
Need I say more?
You realise it was the actor, Matt Smith, departing and not The Doctor?

Wasn't Clara the last face 11 saw?
I think I'd take the hint if I was her
OH MY GOD I HAD NO IDEA!!!

Well you did suggest the Tardis projected Amy's image to ease the Doctor's departure.
"His" departure, 11s departure, I wouldn't think it would have to be explained, but some people...
But he still had Clara with him so little miss sulk a lot wasn't needed
So you're basically saying the impact Amy had on the doctor wasn't significant to 11 to get a "revisit". Now I asked impact on 11, not you.
I think she was wearing a wig. Took me a minute to realise it was actually Karen and not a look a like.
I'm saying he had Clara with him but they acted like she wasn't at all important to him even though she did more for him than Amy ever did who all.

The Doctor didn't depart.
yeah she was.her hair was as short as Matt's due to her role in Guardians of the Galaxy

The young Amelia Pond ?

I think he made them himself but its a nice thought that the Young Amelia Pond left them for him!:)
