Sainsbury's is renaming its tiger bread after a letter a three-year-old girl wrote to the company, saying the bread looked more like a giraffe, went viral.

In May 2011, Lily Robinson wrote to the supermarket, suggesting that the bread should be called giraffe bread.

This is an example of excellent customer service and Chris King (aged 27 & 1/3) is a legend

Surely it was her parents? Not many 3 year olds can write.

I think 'tiger bread' rolls off the tongue easier

It looks nothing like a Giraffe though. And I giraffe bread just doesn't sound right either. Shame the guy who came up with the Tiger Bread didn't patent it :)

I was curious about this in the other thread. Most including myself thought that the letter read as a parent typing as if they were a 3 year old and not the 3 year old who wrote it.

Isn't giraffe bread the bread on the top shelf which no one can reach unless they have a massively long neck and a prehensile tongue?

    Yeah - I don't think they're actually changing the name. :)

Sainsbury's has now given in to popular demand.

"In response to overwhelming customer feedback that our tiger bread has more resemblance to a giraffe, from today we will be changing our tiger bread to giraffe bread and seeing how that goes," the supermarket said.

Aye, very much so. In the other thread I had finally convinced myself that there was no 3 year old and the person did it to get the £3 voucher :D:D

What if another 3 year old "types in" saying they think tiger bread is a better name?

Only one way to find out?

But had no trouble with the fraction.

I am going to write and say my kids won't eat it now because it's called giraffe bread.

We said to one of the Tesco Bakery guys once how nice it was.

He agreed and said it was the most popular.

Personally I think Giraffe Bread is silly-billy-silly, sorry Lily.

Shame she didn't write in and ask them why it goes hard within five minutes and just turns to crumbs when you try to cut it.

Horrible, pappy, baby food bread. Yuck. I don't care what it's called.

Looks more like the scabby leg of the Singing Detective.
Anyway I can smell a "marketing" hand in this story.
