Third Party Software instead of iTunes

I'm fed up with the way iTunes works. Plus added to the fact they - Apple - are intent on stuffing up everyones iTunes with buggy versions of it.
What is the best 3rd party software that can be used to move music onto an iPod, that also shows plays and top 25 played.
I have no idea what version of iTunes I'm using but I know I haven't updated in since the middle of September.

I use anapod, never used itunes and never will.

I have to admit that iTunes is fine for me, but I use it on OSX.

My wife uses Media Monkey nowadays instead of iTunes.

It has a play count as standard within the software but I have no idea if it also uses play counts from the iPod when synced. I doubt it but you could look into it I suppose.

iTunes has play count as well as skip count.

If you only like to use names you have heard of before you can use real player.

I've had a look on wikipedia, but as I have the new classic 160GB seems I'm stuck with iTunes at the minute.
