Don't generalise, it makes you look foolish. Every dog/situation is different, some dogs can acclimatise to being left alone for long periods of time.

If you think it's ok to leave a dog alone for that long, it's not me that's foolish. Or ignorant. Or selfish. Or irresponsible. No dog should have to 'acclimatise' to that. If you don't have sufficient time, don't get a dog. Why is it so difficult to not be so self indulgent?

When did I say what I feed him!
I feed him more than enough thanks and I can afford to feed him.

GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE COMMENTING YOU ****!!!!

Learn how to take care of a pet so it doesn't eat it's own effluence. You can rage at me, when your dog dies of malnutrition and a poisoned colon, look at your self in the mirror and be angry at your own disgusting behaviour. Digesting faecal matter will poison it's blood supply and erode it's digestive tract. Then again, what do I know? I've only owned 4 dogs in my time, all of whom lived to between 12 and 14. None of them chose their own poo over dry food or a sachet of wet food or a can of Pedigree Chum. Shockingly, most will opt for for beef in jelly over their own previously digested waste, just as you or I would probably like Sunday lunch over sticking our head in a toilet bowl.

You should stick to playing with Transformers, not raising animals, you have the mentality of an entitled child and the temper of a brat. Animals are not toys, they are dependent lifeforms owed the kindness and treatment that they learn, earn and deserve respect.

I hope when your animal dies of digestive issues, you are listed as being illegal in terms of owning any other pets.

Well what can I say to that. Oh your a bigger t**t than I first thought.

Do you actually read things or just get what you what out of a reply.

I feed my dog 3 times a day thank you. So how can he be starving and have malnutrition.

We actually found out why he is doing it. It's because we brought a dog gravy and was giving him that once a day with his biscuits.

Since stopping it he isn't eating his poop.

I do have a temper of a brat when it comes to people slating things they know nothing about.

I went to the vet about it at first and they said its common in pups to eat there own poo.

They gave me tablets to stop it but we didn't use them.

My dog has had his microchip. Been vacsonated and is insured so i would love to know how we don't care for him.

To the people actually giving me advice. Thank you.

Oh and for the people slating me for leaving him for 5 hours. It's also fine to do it.

The prison who we got him from leaves her dog for 8hours a day while they work and she is perfectly fine.

    My dog is happy.

Oh and I didn't come on here to be slated. I just wanted a bit of advice.

This will be my last comment because I can't bare people thinking they know better.

How do you know how a dog interprets time?

How long are you (and I don't know why I'm asking you this as I don't value anything you say) allowed to leave a dog alone for? 5mins, 1hour, 3 hours.....Never??

Everyone's situation is different and dogs will adapt to the owners routine.

You really do come across as a pompous know it all. When the truth is you know nothing.

    What patronising nonsense.

So we're all wrong including Dogs Trust
    http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/az/factsheetsanddownloads/factsheettimeforadog05.pdf

    and this http://www.staywell.co.uk/Intl/DE/You-and-Your-Pet/Recommendations/How-Long-Is-Too-Long

How long should dogs be left alone?
So how long is too long? I tend to be quite black and white and I like simple answers that owners can understand. I hate answers which start with, “It depends . . .” but in this case it probably does. Having searched the literature, my best answer is expressed in the table below.

    Age of Dog
(speed of maturity varies between small, medium, large, and giant breeds) Maximum period that a dog should be left for during the day
    (ideal scenario)
Mature dogs over 18 months of age Up to 4 hours at a time during the day
Adolescent dogs 5 - 18 months Gradually build up to 4 hours at a time during the day

Young puppies up to 5 months of age
Should not be left alone for long periods during the day

If I know nothing, then neither do the Dogs Trust, RSPCA, or any other qualified vets, behavioural specialists etc. You come across as another idiot that leaves their dog alone for too long, putting your own wants before the dogs needs.

    Do be quiet.

    My own wants??

You know nothing about my personal circumstances, nor are you Dr Doolittle, so are therefore unqualified to comment about how I look after my dog.

And you know nothing of me. So what is your opinion of all the advice from experts about leaving a dog on its own? All cobblers? Do tell. You're clearly an expert yourself.

When we had our first dog I was in school and both parent worked 9-5, she was alone from day one, she got used to it.

Nobody would own a dog if they could never leave it alone.

As for poo eating.... what food is he on? It's very common in pups x

Thanks that's my thoughts as well. He is on wagg for puppies and has the odd meat pouch. We found out why he was eating his poop. It was because we was giving him dog gravy. Lol

Don't think I'm gonna comment on here anymore cos I will say something I will regret.

All I will say is my pup is loved and cared for fine thanks.

    Bye you wan**rs.

I don't blame you for getting angry with some of the judgmental and stupid replies you've had from people.

My dog is left alone for about 10 hours, every night when he goes to bed.

He takes himself to bed, there is no budging him once he has gone, he refuses to come upstairs so he can't sleep in our room with the other two, so he is left in the kitchen with the lights off. Is that counted as cruel?

Its not a diggy post at you, but how is leaving a dog for 5 hours during the day cruel (assuming that the dog isn't distressed at being left alone that long) and not cruel when its night.

Because you're at home with the dog. And it's sleeping. Sorry, but I do not understand why you get a dog and then leave it alone all day. If you've not got enough time, get a cat. Or a goldfish. Not an animal that needs company and stimulation. And if the dog is left alone all day, how do you know it's not distressed?

Getting used to it doesn't mean it's acceptable. What choice did the poor thing have?
