Is Nicola pregnant in real life ?

:o Yes. She is huge, didn't you notice :D

She's always wearing long scarves and is stuck behind tables. Today they had her sitting on the floor so the coffee table would cover her whole body :D

Rakesh is a corporate solicitor, not a family one. I work for a law firm and there are different solicitors who specialise in different areas of law. For example a residential conveyancing solicitor couldn't do the work of a criminal defence one and vice versa as they wouldn't have the specialised knowledge. Thus Rakesh couldn't advise Jimmy because he wouldn't have the specialised knowledge required to do so.

Oh of course that is the case in real life (i studied law $yself, was qualified as a Legal executive and then got side tracked into another profession when work was hard to find) but soaps always ignore that aspect, the one lawyer around ends up representing everybody.

Rakesh would probably know more that somebody that hadn't studied any law at all though so I imagine could give Jimmy some basic, general advice as a friend and a name of somebody to help properly.

If it is only 6 months then why can't they agree to Jimmy spending 13 weeks in Dubai with Nicola and the other half of the time back in Emmerdale? That way they could agree Angelica would stay with Jimmy so she would miss only 3 months of school rather than having to have 6 months in a school in a new country. Plus it would be one less thing for Nicola to worry about whilst doing her job. Jimmy has said himself he can control the haulage business online with Chas's help for any face to face matters. The way Jimmy is carrying on you'd think it was for 6 years. What I don't like is that it is okay for Nicola to compromise with Jimmy by giving up a short contract of her "dream job" and stay in Emmerdale, but it isn't okay for Jimmy to compromise for 6 months and go to Dubai.

It is certainly a point that on the school front there are a lot of holidays during the 6 months (more so than if the contract had started in say October). 2 weeks at Easter, 1 week in May and 6 weeks over the summer. Even if she only went over (with Jimmy) during those it would be more than a third of the time and missing one half term probably wouldn't be a disaster so she could probably spend the 3 months from late May to early September there easily without it adversely affecting her education or social interaction and that wouldn't kill Jimmy surely. It would be an extended holiday.

They haven't really looked at any proper ways of compromise and making it work.

What will happen to Angel? Surely she will need a teacher and a babysitter? She's going to be in a foreign country surrounded by strangers. Nicola should leave her at home.

I would imagine they have Schools specifically set up for ex pats in Dubai where she could go and I guess Nicola would be earning enough to pay for a child minder the rest of the time. But of course Jimmy being there to do it would be much easier for Nicola.

Nicola, she is not a single woman but has responsibilities of a family. But Dumbo is also in the wrong for not speaking up. The scene at the airport was ridiculous. The man is just a buffoon and a liability.

Jimmy needs to be more supportive - the job is only for 6 months

I think 6 months is a long time in Angelica's development. Just as she was settling into Dubai it would be time to go back to Yorkshire and settle back with her friends and education. I do see Nicola's point that Jimmy would be looking after the little girl rather than child minders in Dubai. I think too that if Nicola left Angel for 6 months it would disrupt her as she wouldn't understand why her mummy has left her for 6 months. It would be upsetting and frightening for her. I can understand why Nicola wants time away but what if 6 months turns into the career of a lifetime and she wants to stay? Jimmy is a bit of a stick in the mud and would prefer to be in the Woolpack than in Dubai. I do think he has been a bit selfish too and shouldn't have left it to the last minute to say he didn't want to go. Anyway the actress is pregnant in real life so Nicola will be going to Dubai :)

I agree with BIB. Which is why I am very conflicted as to who’s side I am on. Part of me admires that Nicola is being dynamic and adventurous. She is looking at an amazing opportunity for her career, and life in Dubai might be more restricted, but there are opportunities galore and money to be made. It could be the making of her.

That said, she does have a family, and Dumbo is possibly the least motivated man in Yorkshire, he’s happy plodding along, and seems to do nothing business related these days, he just does the odd run here and there when the plotline requires it. He is not bound by his job, and his life in Emmerdale is not so fulfilling that jetting off for 6 months in the sun would have a massively detrimental effect on his life.

Jimmy and Nicola have the advantage (I think) of being mortgage free on what is a beautiful house, and seem to live a fairly comfortable lifestyle, leaving that behind must be difficult, and maybe I’m biased because I love Nicola as a character, but I think I find Jimmy the selfish one here. He knows how much this means to Nicola yet has given no real reason to not go, other than that he doesn’t want to!

You can't be serious! You are joking right? All working women should be entitled to maternity leave from work. What do you suggest they do, have an abortion? I'm actually shocked by your post! >:(

That's actually unlawful, I know someone back in the early 90's who had a clause in her contract that she couldn't get pregnant for the first 3 years, I remember being outraged & telling her she should bring them to court, but she was young and really wanted the job.

I'm with Pink Smurf on this one, I'm shocked that now in 2015, you could even think such a thing. What next, if an actor had an accident or got ill they should lose their job?

I think they are both equally selfish but Jimmy's behaviour has gone beyond a joke.

He was the one who said she should go to Dubai in the first place, just last week he agreed to go and enjoy the trip as a family. Only for this week to act like a total idiot and spoil everything and at the same time embarrassing Nicola yet again.

However, Nicola should never have taken the 6 month job without speaking to Jimmy about it in the first place, they should have discussed it as a family. At the end of the day though it is just 6 months. Chas was already going to look after the Haulage business and everything was sorted.

Nicola should go to Dubai on her own, stay the 6 month period and come back to Jimmy and Angelica (which is probably what is going to happen) but I think Jimmy giving her the ultimatum makes him much more selfish. He has no real reasons for not going to Dubai other than it's too hot and he can't wear his trunks on the way to the beach. He hasn't expressed any worries about Angel's education or her well-being, so it's ultimately just because he doesn't want to go on a long holiday while Nicola earns a nice bit of money.

:D Oh dear, when did DS utterly and irrevocably lose its collective sense of humour? :(

Agreed. I wish the writers had given Jimmy a real reason to NEED to be in Emmerdale rather than just his selfish whining about living in Dubai. If the business had won a new contract perhaps? Or Kelly needed him to take care of their son? Scarlett showing up needing some support?! ANYTHIING that would have made us more conflicted about his side of the story. At the moment, as much as I think Nicola's way of going about it was wrong.....I think Jimmy is being ultimately very selfish, and it's slightly unjustified IMO.

Yep, at this moment in time I am happy for Nicola to just go and enjoy her time out there and be happy. Jimmy is an idiot and frankly deserves to be left wallowing in self pity after the way he acted.

She should stay without Angel. If*Nicola*was going to stay alone, I don't see how any court could believe Angel would be better off being raised by strangers in a foreign country, away from any stability she has known.

Haha. God, no one could play Nicola King, like Nicola Wheeler does.

They'd probably have Nicola meet a rich Arab and demand a divorce from Jimmy, he sends Angel off to Dubai and then shacks up with Bernice. Everyone's a winner!!

No, I agree it would be a shame if she didn't come back... I really didn't like her character when she came back as DeSousa but she has subsequently grown on me, I like the unreconstructed nature of her character... she's like ED's very own Jeremy Clarkson :D
