I saw a countdown of Total Films website of the '150 best acting performances' of all time. Jack Nicholson was number one for his portrayal of Randle Patrick McMurphy in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.' I do not believe that there is anyone else that could have played that role when you consider the physical appearance and the demeanor of the actor himself.
I was reading through this thread not expecting this to be mentioned but you stole my thunder. That performance in OFOTCN was just notebook perfect. Jack Nicholson naturally is quite a difficult man to read so interpreting him in the film with the plot of whether he is skiving prison or he actually is mentality disabled fits like no one else could.
Props to the shout out to Arnie as Terminator. One very good point I heard was that Arnold doesn't need to change his voice to be that character, but others who have been a terminator do in order to replicate him. On the subject, Robert Patrick as the T-1000 in T2 made that role his own with his iconic and unusual body movements which I don't think anyone could have thought of and made to look natural & creepy without looking stupid.

That is quite right. He gave the role an edge to it where you could interpret him as psychologically damaged as a person or even as a likable rogue who found himself in a situation where he was admired for his charisma and the upbeat atmosphere he brought to the institution. Obviously, the chain of events lead to a an absolutely horrendous situation.
Ben Kingsley as Don Logan- who on earth got the Oscar that year......
He was awesome in that film, Sexy Beast.

Bogie in Casablanca
Jimmy Stewart in...almost all his films
ditto Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant
Matt Damon in the Bourne films
As for Batman, I've not liked any replacements for Keaton and Nicholson. They complemented each other perfectly; even have the same arched eyebrows. But then I only really like the first Batman movie.

Sorry there is only one Joker & that was Caesar Romero Frank Gorshin will always be the Riddler & Burgess Meredith the Penguin.
There can be Only One!
Sorry that's Highlander! Well you know what I mean.

Reminded me of...
Jeff Bridges in Starman

You mean Jim Broadbent?
I thought she was ok.
In fairness I think anyone that took that role was going to be in the same boat
True. Jodie Foster left some pretty big shoes to fill. I guess it doesn't help that I'm no fan of Miss Moore, and I thought it was a terrible movie
the Adam West one ?
Definitely.
Also have to add David Suchet as Poirot to the list.
Tim Curry - Pennywise the clown
Robert Englund - Fred Krueger
Samuel L Jackson - Jules in Pulp Fiction
Bruce Campbell - Ash
Yul Brynner in The King and I
Yul also in Mag 7 and in that case you'd have to say Westworld
