Bale is being paid £1,785 an hour. That is obscene... There's people starving in the world it makes me sick.

has he got a point?

No, send that clown to America to see what NFL & NBA stars are earning, also tell him to swing (no pun intended) by Tiger Wood's house aswell.

True, but they are not starving because of Bale's wage.

Has this person done anything himself to ease world starvation?

Yup, it's almost as irritating as the multi-millionaire celebrities who appear during Comic Relief telling people to donate...

if they all just donated a million each at the beginning we can save the hours of agony of watching Bruce Forsyth being gunged or a spoof Eastenders.

I doubt he was paid peanuts by the tax funded BBC....

At least you could argue people don't HAVE to pay for footballers wages if they don't want to.

    Least promising thread title ever.

    And I wasn't disappointed.

Mayweather will make more vs Canelo than Bale will make in about 8 years.

If someone wants to pay someone some money for a job, what does it matter what someone else thinks about it???

Bale's wages are not the cause of world hunger. World hunger requires billions if not trillions worth of investment and writing off third world debt.

Why is he just saying this now? Footballers have been on astronomical wages for years now.

Don't forget that Spain has an income tax rate of over 50%.

Funny how a footballer's pay is always talked about in terms of "wages" and "per week" as if they were manual workers while nobody does that with actors or musicians. When Tom Cruise can get paid $10m for a few weeks work on a movie and I bet this soap actor (who I've never heard of) wouldn't turn down the money either.

In 2011, Samuel Eto'o signed for Anzhi Makhachkala, with a wage of nearly €400K a week (after tax). Where was he then?

People moaning about footballer's wages annoys me a lot, and the "starving" argument is what annoys me the most.

What relevance does Bale's wages have to a starving child? Should he have said "No, I'd rather play for £6 an hour because someone is going without food tonight"? Will all of the world's problems be fixed if he was given a more 'accepted' wage?

Also what are these people doing to help starvation? Are they going to take a paycut? Or will they give up their heating because there are elders who can't afford heating and could die of cold?

In the GD forum they're going through a football bashing phase at the moment. They'll be full of people making those same arguments.

The Rock once said that players in the top tier of the NFL didn't earn anywhere near as much as WWE wrestlers.

I didn't hear him complain about the obscene wages of THOSE actors.

What about the scumbag hedge fund managers? David Tepper earned $2.2 bn personally in 2012. I don't want to sound too socialist but these people are snatching away wealth from all of us.

Starving children could easily be provided with food.

It's just that governments have no desire to do so.

Gareth Bale not going to Real Madrid wouldn't change that

What a bizarre choice of pundit. Why do you care what someone who used to be on a show has to say about a news story as opposed to any number of other people?
