ADHD in adults?...

I took an online test and I scored high

I got 92 and anything above 70 is classed as high risk apparently can't remember what site but it was one of the first that cmae up when I googled about it...

Not sure what to do now, my wife dismissed it rolling her eyes when I told her saying 'oh so that's what's wrong this month' kind of thing,

I have been under the mental health team before and had many hours of therapy etc, would they of picked up ADHD?

I have a thyroid condition that's 'managed' and this is something that needs to be ruled out apparently and I have it.......soooo could it just be thyroid disease that makes me feel like I do?

I feel like Im slipping into depression again, I know I have been there!!!

what would my gp say if I asked him if I had this?? Is there a right way about going about this??

or should I not bother!!

Thanks

On line tests can make you feel you have almost anything. Are you still in touch with your CMHT? I have an adult son with ADHD, moderate learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and he also have mental health issues so has had support for both from the CMHT. You need to talk to professionals as trawling the net and taking tests will make you more anxious and depressed and your wife will feel frustrated.

I Know Im not basing andiagnosis on the results, I was just curious, and so took it. I very rarely take online health questionnaires.

    Thanks for your reply!

do doctors and psychs misdiagnose ADHD with other mental health problems, as surely if I had it, it would of been picked up by my GP. or someone??

I was quite depressed before my thyroid diagnosis and it took probably 3 years to get the thyroxine dosage correct.

Are you still having regular blood tests?

I have been hypothyroid for 6 years now, and no improvements. despite how much thyroxine or what meds I take, I still feel awful.

Having a blood test will eliminate the thyroid. My medication changed last year after a few years.

My daughter takes thyroxine for her hypothyroidism and is called in for regular blood tests to check her levels without that htere is no way of knowing the meds are preforming at a therapeutic level. A psychiatrist who gives a definitive ADHD diagnosis is a specialist and if a GP has missed it they simply are not able to diagnose it.

joels dad ive only just been diagnosed of adhd (im an adult). I suffer from depressions, low tolorance to stress and frustation etc. Its only now really been recognised in adults ask your gp for a referrell to see whether it is, some doctors dont believe the condition excists in adults though.

Very many doctors are useless when it comes to these conditions in adults so if you have ADHD it is not at all unlikely that it would not be picked up by GPs. Unfortunatley a lot of psychiatrists are not much better, especially if the hyperactivity is not your major feature.

If you go down the route of diagnosis b prepared amd make sure that who ever does it takes a proper history from you.

It is very possible, many people live with ADHD/ADD without being diagnosed, my brother has the former and I think I may have the latter (I have just had a thyroid test which was clear). The only sure way to know is going to the doctors and checking all possibilities.
