What does a dead bird on your door step mean?

Ok I know this superstitious stuff is crap but if I remember correctly a dead bird on your door step means something. I went out for the papers this morning came home and found a stiff sparrow on my door step, no sign of injury etc but he was as stiff as a board.

It means your cat (or someone elses) loves you

It means a cat likes you and has left you a present.

Or the bird has flown into the door. They're not very bright, birds.

I don't know about superstitions, but we used to have a local cat who brought us dead birds and mice and left them on our doorstep as gifts ... very sad. He wanted to be adopted, and to a cat, it's the nicest thing they can think of. It breaks my heart now to think of it ... both for the dead things, and the cat.

We couldn't take him in because we had a border collie, but eventually the next door neighbour took him in, and the gifts stopped.

In folklore around the world it's considered a bad omen. In reality, it's probably a cat. :D

It means that birds, just like all other living creatures, aren't immortal.

When I find a dead bird near my house it generally means it flew into a window, or that it's been the victim of a passing cat or a sparrowhawk.

I wouldn't worry too much as other posters have said its probably a cat leaving a gift or the bird flew into the door.

Now if it had been a horses head then I would be worried.;)

It means nothing other than a dead bird on your doorstep.

It's quite surprising that one doesn't see more dead birds, they've got to shuffle off their mortal coil somewhere. Do they drop out of the sky (heart attack), or patter away somewhere quiet when they feel Death's winged chariot hurrying near?

I'm sure we've had this discussion before, but it's a mystery all the same.

That the perpertrator was too weak to carry a horses head and too inept to break into your house and pop it in your bed

Don't serial killers start practising on animals first? I'd be careful if I were the OP
