Much of this was told in the third book, as part of that guy's back story. The film was disappointing for shying away from the more extreme material, especially the ending, and I'm glad the TV show seems to be sticking with it.

They did that in the film as well. Gary Oldman was high as a kite and feeding bits of his face to his dogs.
Only just watched this, surely the best episode yet? Stylish, horrific and yet wickedly funny. Hannibal's understated raised eyebrow when Mason Verger started stabbing his expensive chair - he got off lightly in the circumstances. This show deserves every award going.
What was gillian anderson doing on the plane with hannibal?
My understanding, based on what the show runner has revealed so far, is the story behind that particular teaser will comprise the basis for the first half of the next season. Indeed it might be that the fates of some of those other individuals in the season two finale may be unresolved until well into season three.
It is though, beyond doubt, television of the highest quality.
I can't wait to see MM's portrayal of Hannibal once they have actually caught him and have him banged up in a mental institution. I wonder if he will let his cloak of civil disposition fall off and just becomes a complete arse, like Anthony Hopkins' version. I also hope he has a slicked back haircut like Hopkins because I thought that was really menacing on Hannibal as an older man in the movies.
Top notch TV though, really! I was shouting 'noooo' when I realised Hannibal was going to get away, leaving a trail of destruction behind him. I really can't wait to see him fully revealed and see what his character is like then.
I take it Gillian Andersons character has just been completely swept away by Hannibals charms and manipulation? Why else would she be jetting off with him at the end?

And I cannot wait for Dr Chilton to be there, laughing at him....
Mads performance when he dropped the veil of civility and became that infamous predator was astounding. All round its been a fantastic two series of TV, cannot wait for series 3!
Loved the first series but after halfway through the second episode made me decide to delete the others off my Sky+ because I didn't think it was as good I was told I had made a BIG mistake.
So pleased I stuck with it to the end - brilliant tv.....and funny !
I wasn't as keen on season 1 as other people, but season 2 was a definite improvement. They toned down the frequency of the OTT 'torture porn' scenes and almost abandoned the generic 'case of the week' formula and the show was the better for it. I just hope they manage to secure the rights to the Clarice Starling character at some point because the story will feel incomplete without her involvement.
Glad most on here enjoyed the ending, I thought it was awful.
Not sure where this can possibly go now, he will be wanted for the crimes committed at the end, and are any of the victims miraculously going to survive?
Then the reveal of him and GA's character on the plane, I just thought , no this is nonsense.

It is going to follow the full story of Hannibal Lecter, including him being caught and possibly the re-appearance of Clarice Starling.

Fingers crossed that MGM will grant the rights to use characters from The Silence of the Lambs on the show before Fuller gets around to writing season 5 and has to go with Schmarlice Schmarling
One thing's for sure, the finale marked the end of one era of the show and the start of another. It's possible we might still get some Will / Hannibal one to ones, albeit imaginary ones.
I'd rather they hadn't shown it at all. I hate it when they do that. It reflects a lack of confidence in their material - they think we won't stick with the show unless we know that fight is coming. It's seems especially unnecessary here, because we stuck through the slow season 1, and we all know Hannibal gets exposed by Will and caught by Red Dragon from the books/films.
So I'm going to pretend it didn't happen. I hope they don't show more bits of it in other episodes.
That's probably only one of the bad points about the series. I don't think it needed that teaser. The show was gripping enough to follow.
And what a finale. Abigale reappearing.
Very ambiguous ending. Is anyone actually dead?
I haven't read the books but have seen the films so I was wondering about Graham and Chilton as they appeared in the films.
Also Verger. For a moment I thought he killed him which didn't fit with the film (I know the series doesn't have to fit with the film). It was good to see him there in his mask though.
If it does go the 5 series will he make a reappearance?

The finale next week should be good(judging by that fight we saw in episode 1 of the season)

Season 3 trailer
Not sure when we'll get to see it at UK pace as NBC have rescheduled it into their summer season. Maybe if we're lucky they'll air it close to that.
