Would you spend a couple of hours in a pub like this?

It had...
No television
No music through speakers or jukebox
Forbid the use of mobile phones and other tech gadgets eg tablets
Sounds like heaven to me...if anyone knows one can they post a link to it (although they probably won't have a website ;-))
I can think of a couple in the Lake District where there is no TV or music, no wifi and the signal's so poor that mobile phones are virtually useless. There MUST be a few more pubs like them??

Sounds good. If darts , dominoes and cribbage are allowed I'm all for it.
And chess!!

Here you go! It's a fair old jaunt though. My sister travelled here a few years back and loved it
I always lose at chess. Cannot think far enough ahead
In any event while I can understand you wanting a quiet environment why does other people using their phones \ tablets bother you?
Like the Old Dungeon Ghyll maybe in Langdale?
Mind you, last time I was in there one winter, they had the fire going and the cosy warmth was interrupted by a musician on a guitar who handed out maracas, a triangle, a skiffleboard and percussion sticks to the people sat around, and got them to practice using them when he nodded at them. He then went into a hilariously brilliant turn on his guitar singing songs that incorporated the instruments given out as he nodded at the people holding them. It was superb fun.
That's one. The music night - is it on Wednesdays? In any case, there's a captive audience as there are no buses and it's a long walk back to the nearest Youth Hostel, so it's either cars or hotel residents!
Another topic entirely - but I wish cars would be banned on the road from Chapel Stile to Little Langdale via Ghyll (save for genuine residents, disabled and deliveries) so it would be a little more *remote*.
The pub further down from the Dungeon Ghyll (can't remember it's name) does have all the mod cons (large TV's etc)but not sure if they have a mobile signal and wifi?
The music playing at the pub I'm at right now leaves an awful lot to be desired.
The Stickle Barn
Exactly.
If you're that bothered about needing peace and quiet, go and sit in a darkened room for a while.
There are two pubs near me which don't have music or a pool table or jukebox or a tv or a fruit machine. One of them is my local. It's the busiest pub in town but I get fed of going there all the time as it can get quite boring.
Although I draw the line of banning phones. Whilst they can be annoying, what if someone needed to get hold of you in an emergency?
It's a good pub but I'm not always up for real ale and a quiet pint. I also enjoy live entertainment and a game of pool when the mood takes me. For me the most important thing that makes a good pub is atmosphere, people and traditional old fixtures. No point having a fancy new posh wine bar or a pub covered in chrome and bright lights if it feels like sitting in a doctors waiting room. Equally some of these no nonsense pubs that do away with everything but beer and conversation can sometimes get a bit boring after a bit. It's nice to have a change now and again.
One thing I can't stand is when you have those pubs with 50" screens on every wall so you can't get away from football blasting out. Everywhere you sit there's a tv in your face. They're always on even when nobody is watching them. I avoid pubs with Sky Sports partially because of this but partly because those places are usually full of idiots and they only sell freezing cold pasturised keg beer.
And if they tried to stop me from using my phone, I'd tell them where to stuff it
Agreed. I prefer a quiet country pub to a city bar but I like some background music.
It would be good for a throwback into the 1940s if nothing else....
