I don't really know who I was expecting to replace Alesha ,but I can't help but feel a little deflated in their choice ,it will be interesting to see what kind of a judge she will make as she didn't leave much of an impression on me last time ,on the plus side they could have picked a lot worse

I don't understand the relevance of comments about her being bland, she is a judge who knows something about dance - that's what matters. In any case there are already enough egotistical prima donas on the judging panel!

Why wasn't she brought back then at the quarter final stage in 2010 or in 2011 given how disastrous her appearance on the panel was at that stage in 2009?

It's not a surprise by the BBC they don't want someone with genuine honest opinions like Karen Hardy or Arlene Phillips but rather someone who apparently looks good and who won't cause too much trouble.

As for her knowledge about dance it's actually ballet that she's specialised in. The two above would be far better choices on the SCD panel. The question will be if she flops who will replace her then? The show's long term future looks doubtful.

My main comment is AT LEAST IT'S NOT KAREN.....

We have to be thankful for small mercies... :D:rolleyes:

As much as Karen Hardy annoys me, I think I'd rather have her than Darcey - at least Karen has some energy onscreen!

Ooh, I think that's a little harsh to say that Darcey has next to no personality.

She needs to show it, fast. As far as I'm concerned I saw nothing to endear her to an audience in her guest judging slot, and she had more than one week of that. She looked bored, and she bored me. Alesha, for all her faults, was better.

Yes they did - it was reported that the choreographer Karen Bruce was screen tested and apparently she did well in the auditions but the reservations from the producers with her was that she wasn't well known enough - which I think is plain silly because presumably Len and co weren't well known when they first auditioned!

It's ridiculous. I can't believe the producers chose Darcey Bussell (who isn't well-known either really) over Karen Bruce - I don't rate Karen as a choreographer, but I think she'd be a good judge.

I'm disappointed I must say, I found her easily forgettable when she guest judged.

How disappointing! Agree with some that I'm relieved it's not the return of Arlene, however think they could have done better that Darcey Bussell - she was dull.

She's a ballerina, not quite the same as a dancer.

    Me too!

I agree with all of your post and although I'll miss her on SCD, she's really well suited to BGT! :)

Just wish she could do both. :(

    im glad they chose her

I never liked or respected Alesha as a judge. she could have some kind of insight into what the contestants are having to go through, but she has no place judging talent whether its on SCD or BGT

Should have had someone from Diversity. The panel is missing a street dancer.

She had all the personality and wit of a tangerine last time she judged.

I'm hoping she has improved sufficiently by the time October comes around.

At least she can dance and understands dance and actually knows what she is talking about. Okay she is not a ballroom or a latin champion but that is not Craig or Bruno's field of specialism either but both of them understand dance as does Darcey. I am happy with the BBC's decision but would have preferred someone with Len's specialised knowledge - but - hey ho - suppose it would have been too much to expect the BBC to have had the sense to ask Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler or Karen Hardy to become a judge but at least we do have a professional dancer on the panel!

Disappointed with the news. As most have said she's too dull and bland and as Darcey herself said she knows nothing about Ballroom and Latin. Doesn't she live in Sydney. I bet the BBC are going to pay for her accommodation while she's in London.
You wonder do those now running SCD ever look at forums or take note of public opinion.

My first choice would be Karen but if not Karen I'm sure Erin would make a great judge .

I'm kind of "meh" with this. Yes, she's better than Alesha, but she feels a little like the "safe" choice. I'd have preferred a ballroom and latin dancer.

I'm following the German version of Strictly at the moment - Let's Dance. Three out of their four judges are former professional dancers (at an international level). One is a very experienced coach and teacher, another is a judge and the other is a recent pro dancer on the show. The fourth panel member is last year's celebrity winner, but at least she makes some sensible remarks about artistic impression and costumes. She does have a tendency to burst into tears at regular intervals, but you can't have everything....

DB is a dancer but having her judge SCD makes about as much sense as Kiri de Kanawa judging X Factor. I wish they'd asked Camilla Dallerup.

Yes, it would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall of the initial discussions regarding replacements. The big complaint about Alesha was her lack of knowledge, but at the end the show had such a buzz about it, it hardly seemed to matter. Only Craig truly judges anyway.

Darcey is a strange choice, she appears to have none of the vibrant personality of Alesha and yet (if the idea was to go for someone with dance knowledge) does not have in depth knowledge of Latin or Ballroom relevant to the show.

Time will tell, but it just seems like a step nowhere.

For me, i liked Alesha beacuse she said what we (well me) thought at home, whilst the judges lacked this.
Also Alesha was ALWAYS kind and constructive to the contestants because she knows whats like both in rehursals and firing line by the judges!

To compare Alesha and Darcys jive... Alesha's was far better, the only reason why she didn't recieve tens was because she did too early in the comp! Darcys jive was awful i mean even christine Beakley's was better!

Also, esepcially this year Alesha became her own the panel, she had her own style and flare. Her comments had vastly improved by series by seires and i think she would of been great this year to!

Plus she brought personality to the panel, which darcy won't! Like the whole Nancy Rhumba fiasco, she didn't look femenine and she should of stayed in the coffin! :p And the chemistry Alesha and Bruno had was lovely to see, like at the end of each scoring they both fake kiss, and in lens lense they'd alwasy be laughing and joking!

I'm not sure Craig Kelly would agree with the bit in bold - he was a pain in the arse but he didn't deserve that outburst from her which would have been even more embarrassing considering he was in his hometown of Blackpool!

I agree she improved somewhat as a judge but I won't miss her - her double act with Bruno didn't do anything for me - she was a great contestant but out of her depth as a judge!

So even though I'm still not sure about Darcey's appointment - I'd still take her over Alesha any day!

    Welcome back Aleshadixon.net;)

Are you really comparing Darcy's jive which was learnt in a few days as a guest performance with Alesha's which has performed competetively as a contestant after months of training. Very rational.;)

    BIB Heaven forbid NO!

I think Alesha has called off her personal rotties now. :D

Darcey was very low key on SCD. But that Alesha's first series and she had been slammed for her judging. So I'm hoping that Darcey didn't shine because she was aware of the criticism got.

I'm hoping Darcey will be better in the coming series. At least Darcey has a background in dancingand she is at least respected by the other judges and dancers.

Alesha is a far better suited to BGT. Whenever I've seen any of this series Alesha and David Walliams are both good additions to the panel.

Much as I admire Darcey Bussell for her achievements in ballet dancing, she is hardly an interesting personality and her connection with ballroom dancing is even less, if that were possible, than that of Craig or Bruno. I predict that after one season she will disappear and they will bring in the glaringly obvious choice, Karen Hardy.
