Stargazing Live starts tomorrow on BBC2 at 20.30 :)

I have just downloaded a free open source programme called stellarium does any one know how to use it?!

I seem to be stuck in Paris at the moment and would like to put in my own coordinates.

Looking forward to watching the show :)

Hit F6. That brings up the location window. Either choose your location from the drop-down country/town lists, or add your own lat/long (find it from Google Maps) and the town name, then SAVE

Thanks flossie (and hi) - the F4 didn't work, but have found some buttons hidden on the task bar for that :D

Hi Balders :D Is Fluffers still at CERN? :p

The one thing I'm finding mildly annoying is it removes my own task bar from the bottom, but easy enough to get elsewhere without it I suppose :)

Minks - there's a button on the bottom that allows you to switch to windowed mode - then you can make it as big or small as you like :)

Thats set up. I could choose location from drop down menu without any coordinate hassle.

Fluffers is working from home with his CERN work:cool:

He's had NASA, The ESA ans SETI all on the phone for him.

Imagine Neep Armstrong, He's one giant neep for mankind:D

    Whats FF fast forwarding ??

Edit: increasing the time rate  good up to when you can see Sun moving across sky after that its just a blur

Though cold weather in January often gives the promise of clear skies - ideal! :)

I don't think the gibside event is shown on tv

think its only chesire thats getting coverage

think its just a learning event to coincide with the main event being on tv which i have set to record

dreading how cold it will be  least forecast is set to be dry and skies clear which is better than rain and cloud :D

Hey nice! I did think it was quiet this year as nobody was responding to my thread on it!

    http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?p=55945402#post55945402

I was supposed to go a bbc stargazing event near me yesterday but I was really ill. I'm convinced the sleep deprivation from doing observing both weekend nights until 5am took it's toll on me.

Hope those that went/are going to live events enjoy them.

As cold as it is, this is some of the best times to get out there observing...cool atmosphere and cool optics = :) Just wrap up warm and don't feel shy taking a blanket to throw over you...it's cold out there! I had frost on my scope and glasses when I finally retired both nights!

    Virtual Moon Map
    Cartes Du Ciel
    Various Jupiter/Saturn moon location apps..

Anyone interested let me know and I'll dig out the links when i'm home

The only thing I seem to have trouble with is I like to have my task bar visible at the bottom - I can't seem to find what I need to enable that (so I can switch back to other things)

Apologies with the thread, I did a search before I started this and it only came up with last years ending in about august :o Even more embarrassing is I see I even posted in your thread :o:o:o

PS enjoy tonight TVQueen, and wrap up well

Minks - on the stellarium screen, along the bar at the bottom, the 8th button from the right says full screen mode (f11) - click that & it gives you the prog in a window

I think that's the clearest guide I've ever seen on TV.
