Scottish broadcasting legend Arthur Montfurd has passed away.

He was the presenter of Scotsport on Stv and Borders until 1989.

The word "stramash" will always be lovingly associated with him

When Celtic lost he was so cheerful.

Not true at all. Arthur was extremely even-handed with every team. He was a Morton fan all his life.

Suspect you're thinking of his successor at Scotsport, Jim White, not in the same class and not worthy to lace Arthur's boots.

    RIP Arthur Stramash Montford!

His jackets used to play hell with the TV picture.

His great achievement was in the 1978 World Cup when a technical fault prevented ITV from broadcasting the official commentary. Arthur Montford was commentating for STV at the same time, so ITV simply "plugged" him into the network to comment for the whole of the UK.

His golf commentating has only been surpassed by Peter Alliss and Hazel Irvine.

But some of his checked jackets were pretty weird!

One of those people I thought had passed on years ago.

Ah yes, Scotsport on a Sunday afternoon after Cartoon Cavalcade, one of the few cases where STVs sports coverage was better than the BBCs.

    RIP Arthur.
