Kitsch politics has failed....

Kitsch is defined by modern artists as "art" that makes the viewer feel they are good people because they get a nice feeling from viewing the picture. For example pretty babies or pictures of kittens - We think its "nice" and then we introspect ourselves and think we are nice for thinking its "nice". There is no deep thinking or thought provoking concepts.....

The masters of Kitsch politics in the UK are the Lib-Dems. Its all cuddly , nice to everyone. Lets be friends. You are made to feel a nice person by liking their "picture".

The antithesis of this would be UKIP or SNP. Here you get a sense you are a villain or a not nice person if you like these parties or their aspirations.. A kind of Anti-Kitsch, I guess a macho Kitsch.

The problem with Kitsch or Macho-Kitsch is that eventually you have to think deep thoughts.... Political parties have to really engague with people and explain deep philosophical questions like why its moral to take money from someone and give it to someone else.... Its not just "Give more money to the NHS", its "rob joe IT of his spare cash to buy a 2nd hand ford focus so a doctor joseph can buy a new BMW"...
We need less Kitsch and Anti-Kitsch and more deep philosophical thoughts.

Good luck with that thoughtful topic on this thread! I think the very fact UKIP won 60% of the vote in the last by-election proves the complete opposite. Where they've had to grow so quickly, Farage aside, they're a group of complete amateurs with just one thought out policy yet have gained all this popularity by never having too explain a single "deep philosphical thought". Which i find very depresssing. Even when Brand comes along none of the debate is regard his views on anything, some of which are absolutely spot-on, although the full-on revolutionary ones are a bit loony tunes to say the least.

SNP and UKIP are both kitsch under this definition

Each selling a romanticised con to their supporters

So for all your pro Libdem threads you now say the style of politics they stand for (kitsch) has failed?

I know art is swinging back into thinking Kitsch is good thus the Lib-Dems anti-Iraq war could be considered modernist - eg War is Bad. So vote against it (no thought required).

But Free tuition fees. Basically this is a freebie for the middle class and rich at the expense of the sink estate poor. Can we really afford this Kitsch Lib-Dem Policy when the UK is in debt up to its ears?

UKIP don't care what people think about them. They seem to think that through a groundswell of support for an area the other parties are not specific on (namely the EU) is enough. No niceties needed. This is compounded when you add the strong aspect that immigration introduces into a discussion.
