Worst, when the year started... Best, when it ended.

2009 was awful for music for me, until the end with the RATM thing which I found funny.

I quite liked 2009. Favourite artists that year were The Saturdays, Britney, Little Boots, Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, Sugababes 4.0 and loads more! It was a decent year for music. 2010 wasn't so good. It was ok but hit and miss.

Yeah I loved 2009, it brings back a lot of good memories for me.

There were so many big singles that year like Poker Face, Just Dance, Bad Romance, Paparazzi, Tik Tok, She Wolf, Meet Me Halfway, Left My Heart In Tokyo, Bulletproof, The Fear, Fight For This Love, Remedy, Break Your Heart, Supernova, Single Ladies, Halo, Sweet Dreams, Ready For The Weekend, I'm Not Alone, Knock You Down, Holiday, Bonkers, Bad Boys, Mama Do, Run This Town, Rabbit Heart etc.

It's crazy how many great songs were released that year. Look at the best selling songs of 2010 and they're really awful in comparison.

I loved 2009. It was the return of female pop stars.

One of the best years recently that has been awesome brilliantly. So much diversity, many memorable tracks and a tonne of great albums as well.

Shame 2014 is as weak as gnats piss.

Little Boots released a new album last year. It's called Nocturnes. Should be available on iTunes.

2009 was a fantastic year but just for me personally speaking - it was also one of the happiest years of my life, so inevitably all music (from the naffest of pop to the proper anthems) will remind me of good times.

These are some of my faves:

    Lily Allen - The Fear
Kevin Rudolf - Let It Rock
    The Prodigy - Omen
Noisettes - Don't Upset the Rhythm/Never Forget You
Kelly Rowland - My Life Would Suck Without You
La Roux - Their whole album
    Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers/Holiday
Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer
Pet Shop Boys - Everything they released that year
Lenka - The Show (virtually forgotten one-hit wonder but I loved it!)
Florence & The Machine - Rabbit Heart
    Agnes - Release Me
Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow (and I Gotta Feeling before overplay killed it forever)
    Little Boots - Remedy
    Jamie T - Chaka Demus
Tinchy Stryder feat Amelle From The Sugababes - Never Leave You
    Chicane - Poppiholla
Muse - The whole Resistance album
Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys (seems so forgotten now given how briefly big it was)
Star Pilots - In The Heat Of The Night
    Chipmunk - Oopsy Daisy
Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love
Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind
Paolo Nutini - Pencil Full Of Lead
Chuckie feat LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl
Chase & Status feat Plan B - End Credits

Undoubtably the year of Lady Gaga but for me she wouldn't release anything really truly brilliant until 2011's The Edge of Glory. And, erm, hasn't since :p

I did love 2009. My only moan of that year was Black eyed peas, who became bigger than ever, even though imo it was robotic overproduced so called electro music with an urban feel.

2009 was such a happy year for me personally, so I do think back and the songs bring back great memories. I don't think it was a particularly stand out year though for music...

However I loved La Roux - Bulletproof, Never Leave You - Tinchy Stryder and Amelle, Fight For This Love - Cheryl Cole, Happy - Leona Lewis, Radar - Britney Spears and I'll never forget Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling being EVERYWHERE that summer.

EDIT: Just watched that video, how could I forget about Paparazzi - Lady Gaga (although I do see 2009 as the year of Gaga), Party In The USA - Miley Cyrus, She Wolf - Shakira and Obsessed - Mariah :o Used to love them

Sweet Dreams by Beyonce brings back a lot of memories from that summer too. Love that song.

Since about 2003, 2009 and 2010 have been the only good years for chart music. Other than those years the chart has been terrible

So much music I loved that year it was the year I turned 18 and the music was a great soundtrack loads of new music and music out in 08 breaking through:

    La Roux
    Florence + The Machine
    Little Boots
    Laydhawke
    Lady Gaga
Lily Allen's comeback after 2 and a half years
    MGMT
    Vampire Weekend
Yeah Yeah Yeah's released it's Blitz great album
Bat for Lashes another returnee with the fantastic Two Suns
I remember Simian Mobile Disco on R1
    Calvin Harris
    I even enjoyed BEP
    Rihanna released Rated R
Britney spears released the underrated 3
Friendly Fires broke through to the mainstream

So many great songs and such a mix of genre's people slate 09 but there was a lot going on much more diverse than now.

    I don't know. I thought 2007, 2011 and 2013 were good. 2008 wasn't bad either.

Seeing people talking about a mere five years ago in the way you all continue doing makes me feel very old. I can only guess most of you are very young to be acting as though five years ago is a long time or some sort of great milestone. :D

2009 was one of the most boring years for music in my opinion. Most of the hits were very "safe" (i.e. generic dance-pop songs), and they sounded the same. There wasn't very much going on that year, it was quite slow-paced as well. I think the reason Boom Boom Pow (and the Black Eyed Peas in general) did so well was because it was so different to everything else, and people were absolutely desperate for something interesting to happen by that point.

Most of the big hits of 2009 wouldn't do well today.
