"Be my boo" = awful. Can't get over how rough Ester Dean actually sounds - her writing is decent, but that voice! That's probably why she's not launched a singing career, and just gives all her songs to Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.

    She looks a bit like Kelis

    Her voice is very rough and i can see what you mean. She is better as a songwriter than a singer.

    Ester is dope...and she can sing, she just has a husky tone to her voice that is less commercial than say Rihanna...

    Her songwriting discography is f****** impressive!

    Thought she sounded decent on Super Bass, but I reckon Nicki Minaj sings more of the chorus than I originally thought...

    Nicki wouldn't be able to 'sing' without Melodyne...

    Ester doesn't have the best voice, but I really really respect her talent as an artist, plus she has written a good few of my favourite songs right now so...:cool:

    And actually, I reckon Rude Boy would have been a decent debut single from her. Her version was pretty strong IIRC!

    I agree, it's nice to see a woman dominating in a male world but her lyrics just aren't very good imo. End of. She's only in demand because people have managed to get hits with stuff she's had involvement in, that doesn't make her a good songwriter at all.

    Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha and Katy Perry are great songwriters too, though they mainly write for themselves.

    It's not great. Her voice sounds very rough and you can instantly tell it's a demo. Britney's version sounds a bit more polished IMO.

    Omg I really, really dislike this version!
    And she does look like Kelis!

    But she is ALRIGHT (low alright) on some songs, and because she is a good songwriter I will let her off.

    Ester sounded awful on the 'What's my name' demo as well. People often mock Rihanna's vocals but she has her own distinctive style. Same thing with Singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy on the Te Amo demo. Wonderful voice but just sounds wrong. It's a Riri song through and through. People like Esther, James and even Keri Hilson flourish in the background. There is clearly good reason why they are not successful solo artists. And in Keri's case not a convincing solo artist.

    I think people are judging this demo to be something it isn't. At the end of the day, it's a demo it's not going to be polished and flaunt Ester's best talents

    Yeah a demo is just a demo. But when it gets shopped around so heavily, surely more effort should be made in quality. Is it any wonder Chris Brown rejected this particular demo?

    And regarding Keri Hilson, she's a flop because she has no presence to her. She writes sick songs, but no way should she sing them. Gimme More is the beat example of a dire demo from Keri, but flawless finished song.

    Ester Dean does have a personality, but its very... Um... Ghetto.

    Gaga is hit and miss. That Eh Eh Eh song and most of The Fame is awful.
