There was a better thread like this last year about which bands have never had a #1 but deserve one. I said Bon Jovi in that...and I feel with the way this country is...they may never get one in the end.

No band is more deserving than Bon Jovi to get a UK #1.

I didn't know they'd never had a number one. You are so right, I can't think of any band who is more deserving than Bon Jovi.

I have to agree about there being no band deserving a UK #1 as much as Bon Jovi

If solo artists count, Sash! has had five #2s and not a single #1.

To be honest, this list is fairly endless. Most modern day bands don't get a look in over the type of music that makes it into the charts nowadays. I suppose the only recent exceptions to this would be Arctic Monkeys, Bastille etc, but they've become incredibly over-commercialised.

If we're talking genuinely underrated then I'd nominate JJ72 over Feeder. They're long gone now but in the early 2000s were releasing music every bit as good as similar bands like Muse and Placebo, had a fantastic live reputation and two critically acclaimed albums, particularly their second I To Sky which was a brilliant record. But their record label did them no favours at all and condemned music tht could have propelled them to superstardom to a bit of a cult following. Their third album has lay unreleased since about 2006. And again, it was really good. Look up 'Radio' and 'Coming Home' on youtube. Unreleased.

I mean they did get some recognition with some popular, charting songs like "October Swimmer" and "Oxygen" but that was it.

They're from my neck of the woods.

The Arcade Fire - one of the most critically acclaimed bands and biggest live acts but they struggle even to get top 40 hits so can't see them ever getting a no.1. :(

I hope Kelly Clarkson gets a number one, she really deserves one.

...and so she did, a few years after that post, with "My Life Would Suck Without You" in 2009.

    The Who.

They did have a number 1 album, which is arguably more noteworthy.

Exactly not comparing terms of talent but their popularity. Britney has had 5(6 including one as a feature) #1 singles and no #1 albums.

Yeah I know, but that wasn't the question asked.

Agreed about Coldplay. Unless depressing equals great. I like Coldplay's music, its just the whining of Chris MArtin over the top that makes me want to heave!

    Are u me ? :D

Led Zeplin - They never even bothered to release a single

The only single they released in the UK was Whole Lotta Love - which was a re-release in 1993. They did release singles in other countries from around 1969 I believe. Surprising considering they were a British band of course.

Free is another band who did not get a number one. All Right Now was released a number of times over the years. The highest it got was number 2. Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" kept if off the the coveted number one slot. No accounting for taste! :)
