Aussie accents

They have to be the most annoying in the world.

Why? It's the way that everything goes up at the end of a SENTENCE. Like they're telling you something and want to make sure you're LISTENING. Or maybe they think you're thick and might not get what they're SAYING. Actually, it's really IRRITATING.
Anyone else AGREE?

The words in capitals indicate the words that go UP, just so you Pommies get IT.

I've been watching the Aussie-US sci-fi series Farscape which is being shown on the Pick channel

For some reason it's hilarious to see weird alien creatures with Aussie accents......:D

I must be strange then, because I find both Aussie & Liverpool accents very sexy on women.

Probably true, although to me they all sound the same, unlike, say, Americans, Irish, and Scots.

The going up at the end bit seems nationwide though.

It's called the Australian Question Intonation, I don't mind the accent but this is so irritating.

This by Stephen Fry explains it :D

I was chatting to a Scouse woman once and she said "Do you like avocado?"

    I replied "No, I don't drive."

It's called a high rising terminal and it's extremely contagious! I've heard it in the UK, I have cousins from California who do it and I've been hearing it more and more when I go home to Seattle. It is very annoying. :D

But then my accent do doubt grates to many many people, so...

I quite like the Aussie accent. :)

One of my least favourite accents would be Canadian, to me it just sounds like an American doing a bad impression of an Irishman and it sounds silly. No offence to any DS Canadians out there!

I say what I hear. In my experience it doesn't matter if they're from Perth or Parramatta, most of them do it.

I'm Australian and I agree that inflection is very annoying. The people here in Northern Ireland have a similar habit, an inflection that goes 'up' and then trails off...my in-laws all do it. As for the Aussie thing...I first noticed it in the show Neighbours years ago and the way the actors spoke. I don't remember it being so noticeable up to then.

The Liverpool accent is like fingernails down a board to me - that EasyJet girl from the Airline show some years back - Leeann Chung - worst voice I have ever heard in my entire life. Second to her is Nadine Coyle's very odd Derry accent. Nobody in Derry speaks like that.

Here I disagree, the Canadian accent can be very sexy indeed.

That's what I was going to post - I'd not noticed the Aussie accent inflection but I was going to say that I had heard some Northern Irish people speak like that.

It doesn't bother me at all, I've heard far worse accents.

I do not mind the Australian accent, the ones I dislike are the American accents from just about every state.

The other accent I dislike is the hard aggressive Glaswegian ones. Some Scottish accents are fine but the Glaswegian one sounds like they want to pick an argument with everyone.

He's great but his Dutch accent imitation sounds like Connery.
