I disagree, Nick Grimshaw is a talented broadcaster, he does tv and radio very well. He's popular amongst his target audience and he has a clear passion for music, he's also been complemented on his interviewing skills and his ability to get on and connect with guests, without being dramatic he could be the next Wogan. I don't think there's any doubt that he will one day present the radio one breakfast show :)

This is a wind up surely? The next Wogan? He's absolute garbage. His late night show is so poor, it's so far away from what Colin Murray had it's unreal.

I feel the rumours are somewhat self-perpetuating- he's not leaving yet! I hope he doesn't go for a long while- and only if he starts to sound stale, as I think Mills is. I can't see what R1 would gain from putting Scott on breakfast- he's not as entertaining as Chris and I don't think his show works in the morning. Vernon is too dreadful to contemplate- I wonder if, seeing as the bosses seem to love it, there will be some kind of Switch takeover with Annie Mac and Grimshaw? Oh dear. I like Annie, but CBBC Radio- no thanks.
I can see whoever takes over being a disappointment after the brilliant CM- though if Coxy were to make the most unlikely comeback ever, that would be amazing!

I think that too, but any replacement will be a short-term fix. Coxy? She's too old and been shafted to weekend/cover shows.

The BBC are getting far too paranoid about their staff getting too old for their audience. Really, the audience grows with the station and the bosses have to be clever about their gradual changes. Replacing Jo Whiley with Fearne "Sticky" Cotton is a bit of a bad call to start with.

For Chris Moyles.... I'd say another 3 years max (if we he can keep the momentum going and make a major on-air cockup). I think Scott will be replaced before then (as his steam is running our and Laura's exit has shown Scott's weaknesses) and he'll end up on weekends or go to a commercial station. Especially if Greg proves his worth in the later afternoon slot. Bit strange, but I guess he needs to go somewhere daytime. I feel he may gain a side-kick of which he truly needs for daytime.

Yes, his show is very different from Colin Murray, but he does what he does very well, it's a matter of taste whether you like his "type" of radio or not. I think it was possibly wrong to replace Colin Murray with him because many will begruge him simply for not having an alternative music show, a daytime slot would have been better for him imo.

I have a feeling it will have to be with greg james, or Nick Grimshaw. Which will probably be the day I offically know I'm too old for Radio1.

I think Scott would do a stint on breakfast, maybe a year before Grimshaw takes over.

Being in my early 30's, when Moyles leaves that will be it- no more Radio 1 for me. He is the only reason I tune in.

Enjoying a nice 2 week break at the moment.:)

I hope Chris doesn't go anywhere soon as there isn't really anyone to replace him.

The age thing is interesting: Radio 1 have a bit of a dilemma, especially with the breakfast show. Ideally, they'd want someone in for a long stint. Say 4-5years, but if they want them to be the same age as their target audience they'd be looking for someone who's 25 tops.

What 25 year old presenter has the experience needed to hold down the Radio 1 Breakfast Show? Oh, and the talent too.

For me, being the target audience's age isn't as important as being able to relate to the target audience. Chris Moyles still can, but may find it increasingly difficult as he heads towards his high 30s.

I think Chris still has a few years in him yet!

As for Grimshaw - AAaaaah, yep that'll be a major switch off time - couldn't stand his weekend breakfast show, lacked intelligence, humour and that spark that you need first thing in the morning. just plain old dull.

Mills is again proving this week that he can't do breakfast with his current format. it is way too 'clinical' and too much music and majorly suffering from the acerbic Chappers to give it an edge.

I'm looking forward to Vernon's second stint on Breakfast and see if it is any improvement on last time when moyles was up the hill. It felt to mee that he was part of the team and not leading the team which left the show feeling a little weak and non-directional.

Greg James - just not ready yet. Maybe in a few years.

i honestly don't think there is a valid replacement for chris - which is not a reason to leave him on the show as he does deserve the show, he is bloody good at it.

I still enjoy listening to Moyles - even though I'm heading out of the target demo..my opinions (for whatever you deem them worth) are as follows:

I don't think Greg James would be a good shout - he simply seems to run out of things to say and momentum during links. Half the time he relies on repetition of weak features - moreso than Mills ever has.

I personally find him hard work to listen to. Maybe with someone to bounce off or more experience this will improve?

As for Nik Grimshaw..maybe it's because I'm a bit older and not "yoof" target but I find he comes across as being disinterested and instantly forgettable.

Dev from 1xtra I find more interesting, natrually funny and engaging than either of the above two.

Can't see it being Mills for the reasons previously discussed on this thread.

I think Nik Grimshaw and Annie Mac would be car crash radio - she doesn't do mornings..have you heard her covering Whiley?!

Its a tough call and I'm not sure I'd like to be one of the people having to make the decision. Maybe they should go for someone from outside the R1 family and completely shake things up.

Anybody else think that Greg James is punching far above his weight and peaking a little bit too early?

I really really want to like the guy. He's young, a radio geek, hasn't come from TV... but he seems to be lacking something.

He is still young. Mills and Moyles were more than comfortable when they started on afternoons, but they worked their way to that spot. Greg seems to have just been in the right place at the right time and got a slot way before he is ready.

He's good, but he's young. He doesn't have experience for a daytime slot on Radio 1. Another couple of years at early breakfast and he'd probably be a fabulous presenter.

I'm not a fan of Edith, but I'd rather listen to her trundling along with bland radio every afternoon than listening to Greg desperatly trying to be funny and half the time failing.

I'm scared he has peaked far too early and will ruin his go at Radio 1, because like I said I do like him and want him to do well.

Going back to the early dark days of Matthew Bannister again when DJs should be the same age as the listeners?

I'd say that Lauren Laverne should be given the show and she could do it for a longer stint than Moyles.

I know what you mean about wanting to like Greg James, but that his show seems to be missing something. I've wanted Edith gone for years, but I'm almost embarassed to say... I'm starting to warm to her show! Not enough to listen to all of it- she's not as bad as she used to be, except for the constant movies talk, and I'm worried that Greg's show is going to be a bit irritating. Ah well.

When the dreaded happens and Chris Moyles leaves breakfast, maybe they'll want a big surprise signing to attract attention?

When Chris eventually goes (and unlike others I cant see him being there another 5 years) I think his replacement will be a safe pair of hands to weather the storm of falling ratings, that person is likely to be Scott Mills. I think the next "big" breakfast show presenter isnt even at Radio1 at the moment.

As for Moyles I can see when breakfast finally finishes for him he will host the weekend mid morning slots for a year or 2 before moving to Radio 2, possibly replacing Steve Wright.

It'll have to be someone new, innit? No one at the station right now could handle it.

    Scott is... Scott
Fearne and Reggie are average -- even less so separately
Grimshaw is good, but not for breakfast. He's best with music, and interviews; things that don't require a team.
Dev is black (I'm black -- I can say these things!)

Everyone else is too old/crap. Wait!

What about the Welsh guy? He's good, I think, and he's young. And he works well alone AND with other people.

What is his name? He does a specialist show, and he reads stuff out on Scott's show sometimes.

If they're going to kick Moyles out for being "too old" then that surely kills Vernon Kay & Scott Mills chances doesn't it? Seeing how they're roughly the same age.

The only person I can see in the slot is Greg James but as other have said he's not ready for Drive Time yet let alone Breakfast.

I'm no expert, but I'm thinking after a few more years, they'll want someone to take over breakfasts, and I can't imagine Chris on another time.

Maybe Radio 2. After he beats Wogan.

Chris is in a sort of unique situation, isn't he? They could move around Scott and Vernon, but Scott and Vernon aren't in the breakfast slot, and aren't the saviours that Chris is.

I'm thinking when Chris leaves breakfast (he won't be "fired", I don't think) he'll leave Radio 1.

Found out Welsh guy's name. Huw Stephens!!1!

Me too. Increasingly, I find I only like Chris Moyles on daytime Radio 1, and that the rest of the time I listen to anything but Radio 1. Why do most of their presenters feel the need to repeat themselves constantly?

Edit: I can cope with Edith Bowman, but not at 5am on a Sunday!

Scott Mills might be playing it too clinical for some people's liking - but he's probably being deliberately safe. There's not much point in bringing in sharp features if it's just for a couple of weeks here and there - threads, just like on DS, need time to evolve and grow with the listeners.

I agree with most of the reax about Grimmy here - but I'm not talking about him doing the show next week or even next year - two or three years hence he will have matured a bit and become a real fixture on Radio 1.

^^ So not only do you need to be young, but you need to be mature?
