Funny really...a lot of people had major probems with that character when they were first cast.

But I can't agree that it was a waste...I always adore any movie that has the guts to kill off a major character, because it means all bets are off and anything can happen...you don't know who will survive to the end, and who won't and that adds immesurably to the tension.

And it's also not a waste because there is already an equally fine actor stepping into that role for future movies.

Oh no don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with killing off a major character in principle. I just think it's disappointing when the whole plot of the film is about saving this character, then they die at the hands of the villain after all. Just really disappointing and depressing!

I think you're overstating it a little, but I agree we haven't had an outstanding interpretation of a modern Bond girl in any of the Craig films. Solange in Casino Royale and Sévérine in Skyfall are two perfectly good secondary Bond girls, but I think the Brosnan era had perfectly good and "non bimbo" Bond girls in Natalia, Xenia, Wai Lin and Electra also the idea of Jinx was good if not executed properly (the less said about Christmas Jones the better), and we haven't had a modern version of one of those yet.

Xenia "Onatop". Possible the best bad bond girl in the whole franchise.

...the whole plot of the film is about saving this character...

From my understanding, saving that character was only part of the plot,
From what I gathered, 007 was on a mission to locate and apprehend the person who'd hacked MI6, Silva, which was to get to M.

That's what I thought....all that effort and then......I felt really sad at the end and no jokes about pottery dogs were going to cheer me up!

Don't bother with tags - it's too late for anyone who viewed the trailers or read the movie description.

Some of you have very narrow minded views of young people.

We're young, therefore we won't enjoy this.

How stupid can some of you be?

I agree, my Son is a young person (10yrs old) and he has seen all the Iron man, spider man and Avengers assemble films. I took him to see Skyfall, he loved it more than he likes goldeneye, high priase from him.

I thought the "What makes you think this is my first time" line was a nudge-wink reference to Casino Royale and the tied to a chair torture? ;)

Of course it was! I mentioned this in an earlier post. It was made clear at the time Casino Royale was released that there were two clear hints that LeChiffre was gay - firstly when Obanno threatened to cut off his 'girlfriend's arm and he didn't protest, and secondly when he comments "wow" on Bond's physical condition after stripping him naked to torture him!!

I just got back from seeing it too and I have to say I was gobsmacked at how brilliant it was. Was very surprised about M.

Anyway, I'll definitely be picking up the blu ray with it's released.

It was okay. I thought Bardem was great.

The bond girls were so thinly drawn. Bond didn't seem to give a toss that Severine was killed either. He knew she was scared and he said he would help her so you'd think he'd be affected in some way but wasnt. That may have been harking back to the old Bonds but I really disliked it.

Also the whole 'now don't you be a field agent you belong behind a desk' attitude to Naomie Harris's character irked me too. I know who she turns out to be comes into it but still.

Went to see it last night and loved it. Not sure if it was just up here but 30 minutes of ads /trailers beforehand? Tad much for me.

I think he just had that attitude to Severine because he's becoming colder and tougher, he knows how much Vesper hurt him. You're right though, he could/should have helped her.

    Correct.

You see more trailers for Skyfall and it's product placement, before a viewing of Skyfall, than you do anywhere else.

I have to say that annoyed me too, particularly adverts that showed clips from the chuffing film when we were just about to see the film

That annoyed me too - i turned away and spoke to my friend (quietly). I don't want to see any clips from the film 15 minutes before i'm going to see it.

lol @ people saying the film seems cheap for being in britain so much. go and watch casino royale again and put it next to the cinematography of skyfall. it's been 6 years and it's aged horribly. the bourne films (which don't cost hundreds of millions of dollars) have a more cohesive aesthetic than whatever casino royale or quantum of solace had. every pound is on-screen in skyfall.

obviously, i loved it. it has the feel of not only a great bond film, but a great film in general. it reminds me of batman begins in how reverent of the past and embracing of the new it is, all while holding onto an individuality. i think when casino royale came out we were so starved for a "real" bond that we saw daniel craig's performance and the tone of the action and all the other stuff like how long and aimless the poker scenes felt or how whatever the villain was got glossed over.

it's not that hard to see why giving a real director a bond film might result in the best one yet. i hope whoever does the next one, they don't rush it.. and my god, the quips were so pervasive, i loved it, it was like watching archer!

I saw Skyfall at the Vue Gold Class, and we didn't get loads of related trailers. I think there was one Bond one, but I can't remember what it was for, so they failed there!

Saw it today. It was good, not amazing as some early reports gushed, CR was still better. For some strange reason upon leaving I really felt the urge to have a heineken and get myself a new watch...

edit: although to its credit I will say that the fawning over Bardem's villain is completely justified, he was fantastic in the role.
