Read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald the other week, brilliant book. Not being a great lover of American literature, I surprised myself how much I loved it, had me really engrossed and engaged.

Next on my list is The Bell Jar and then it's on to Anna Karenina and Les Misérables!

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I have been meaning to read it for ages and I have finally got round to it!! Enjoying it so far.

This book really moved me and got me thinking about life and how precious it is. Definitely one of my favourites.

The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman. One of his better ones IMO.

Downloaded Les Miserables to my Kindle. However finding it very hard going, cannot get into at all. Maybe it's just me as all the reviews I've read are glowing! Is it worth continuing? Might give it one more try tonight, it's certainly helping me fall asleep.... Feeling a bit disappointed in myself that I cannot get into this so called classic novel!

I am having the same problem!! I think I have only read about 14% on my Kindle - I was determined to get to the end but I am really struggling!

Finished "The Thiirties" by Juliet Gardiner. Does for the 30s what David Kynaston's social history surveys did for the 50s.
Really gives a flavour of what it was like to live in Uk in the inter war years in all its aspects. Juliet Gardiner features ATOW on BBC1's social history series Turn Back Time.

Just finished The Limpopo Academy of Private Derection by Alexander McCall Smith - I love this series of books about Mma Ramotswe and her friends, though I get the feeling there might not be many more stories to tell about them.

Am now rereading Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince - partly because I want to read something easy on the brain, and partly because I have a sudden urge to hold a real book in my hands again, and to take a short break from my Kindle!!

You're doing much better than me - I gave up at 2%!

Is it worth continuing, does it get better?

In the meantime I have returned to A Song of Ice & Fire - Book 2 - A Clash of Kings by GRR Martin. Rather than splashing out on the Kindle download I am re-reading my paperback copy. It is nice to hold a real book again, much as I love my Kindle!

    Fool's Fate - Robin Hobb.

Loved this series, hope The Fool doesn't die but think he might. :(

I don't get what all the hype with 50 Shades Of Grey is, thugs and chavs in my school year are actually asking people if they can borrow it even though they would never usually touch a book, its absolutly pathetic, just because its basically porn in paper form.

i agree:D-and its so nice to see a whole thread where people are reading different books to the hype that is going round with this 50 shades:rolleyes:
i've just finished Perfect People by Peter James-now reading Not Dead Yet by also James James (the best crime writer around IMO)

Can i just say-if you like it then good for you-i just gave up as it was such an awful weak storyline with bascially repetitive sex! but in your favour Mishcoll-i've been told that it gets better later in book 2 and again later in book 3-for for it-and let me know the ending!:D

I'm just finishing 'The Kashmir Shawl' by Rosie Thomas. I don't really go in for family saga type books, but this is a really pleasant read. Bit of romance, bit of history, bit of travel all blended together in a story which is presented in a very easy-to-read style.

In contrast I'm also reading 'Birdman' by Mo Hayder, which is nasty but good. I much prefer this earlier Caffrey novel because it's just normal crime. I don't like all the supernatural nonsense in the Caffrey/Flea ones.

I reckon it's Serial Uncut by Jack Kilborn and Blake Crouch next.

Well that was mince...and I like Kilborn.
I,m onto Maybe this Time, jennifer Crusie (light chick lit with a bit of a ghost story) and Joseph Connolly The Whisperers ( much darker gothic horror type)

I might try this next, sounds like my cup of tea.

The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham.

It's cosy and very pulpy and peppered with liberal "I say, old fellow" style dialogue but it's great fun!

To be honest - no! But it has such good reviews on Amazon. Maybe I haven't reached the good bit yet :D

    Hi Ella - I haven't seen the film :o

Loving the book though, so I guess I would only be disappointed in the film?
