    Aaliyah :cry::cry::cry:

It's tragic because she was incredibly young and was just starting to reach her full potential.

The same applies to Jeff Buckley and Amy Winehouse. They left too soon.

    Elvis Presley
    John Lennon
    George Harrison
    Amy Winehouse
    Aaliyah
    Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez
    Donna Summer
    Whitney Houston
    Laura Branigan
    Freddie Mercury
    Michael Jackson
    Karen Carpenter

Some of these singers died before my time, some when I was young, but it's not made their deaths any less sad to me...and these are just those who I can name from memory. I've no doubt I'm missing off a few people who I also wish were still around. So many musicians seem to either go down dark paths or just die before their time. It must be the pressure of the music business.

Although I was far too young to remember him when he was alive, Jeff Buckley's death is one that always gets me. It was such a tragic, and yet mysteriously intriguing one. It really is a huge loss for the music industry that we only got one completely finished album from him.

Exactly what I was thinking...he died in such a horrible way, drowning

    Margaret Thatcher :(

Yes of course, her albums were fantastic.
Particularly her experimental electric funk period.

Karen Carpenter died when I was 5, but my mum played her tapes all the time.

Her story is so sad. Particularly her cold mother and awful husband. One of the most distinctive and beautiful voices ever.

John Lennons was the most shocking for me, because of who he was, and how he died.

Paul Kossoff was a drawn out tragic loss too. A fantastic guitarist who lost his way to drugs.

agreed..... and thats a fact! ;)

im not shocked by druggies snuffing it, play with fire...etc...

its disease or accident that shocks me.

    i miss

Marc Bolan, a passenger in a fatal car crash, he was only 29

John Lennon was also a tragic loss of course, especially being murdered by some nutcase for no other reason than he was famous.

    Yeah.

She released a lot of good tunes, didn't she. The fascist cow.

    Donny Hathaway
    Dinah Washington
    Sam Cooke
    Jimi Hendrix

Obviously I wasn't around for the latter four but they all went well before their time. I was and still am sad about Amy's death just because I am a massive fan and learned to sing while listening to Frank, and to see her die just as she was slowly overcoming her problems was beyond sad.

Jason Molina of Songs: Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co. He died last month from organ failure (alcoholic) at 39. It's the first time one of my favourite musicians has died at a time when they're my favourite (if that makes sense). He was amazingly prolific and hid his problems well, even though his lyrics and music were pretty bleak. Came across as a really decent bloke too. I haven't listened to much else but his music this past month!

Adrian Borland of The Sound, took his own life in 1999.

If you want a really harrowing listen, check out "Harmony And Destruction", the album he was making when he died.

Me neither. They knew what they were getting into.

John Lennon's has to be the most shocking of my time.
