Ah I get you now...:p There was a huge deal about that though. I felt kinda bad for Kelly because she never wanted it to be a single.
I know. It's kind of bitter-sweet because everyone got to hear an amazing song but she got the backlash. She apparently wanted either 'Cry' or 'Dont let me stop you' which I would have been happy with too. Man she's talented and got some seriously good tracks!
Another song I though of rehashing was Ciara's 'Goodies' & '1,2 Step'.
oh and kylie`s `come into my world` was clearly similar to `cant get you out of my head`.
Hardly a blatant attempt at rehashing a hit considering they were on the same album from a singer who at that point in her career was standing on egg shells.
Some of the songs mentioned were obiously deliberate Baby and Ooops for instance second album needed a hit to solidify her career go with what you know and both are great pop songs. On albums also loads of songs sound similar to keep within a theme or contex like Madonna Pretener and Sty on Like a Virgin it isn't new and its an almost sensible thing to do when setting the foundations for a career just so long as down the line the artist changes and evolves. But i do agree blatant rip offs of huge songs like Titanium and Laserlight that does take the biscuit.

Idk, I can't really call songs by the same person rip offs. Because the artist didn't rip it off, the producer is just a cheap asshole which is the case in Titanium and Laserlight, also half of Dr. luke's music and Ryan Tedder is guilty of it as well. It's not an Inge rial rip off by the artist. Especially in the case of Laserlight and Titanium since Laserlight was done as a favor for Jessie doing Repeat. It seems DG was just like, f*ck it, this is ready, I'll just use this one again. Kind of sad since she gave him one of the best songs on his album and he gave he didn't reciprocate.
I think rip offs are done purposefully, as in the cases of Lady GaGa and Beyonce.

Exactly like another song mentioned Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Come Into My World both written by Cathy Dennis (the latter won a grammy) so will have similarites or in some cases an attitude of ill care **** it get it out there
Also talking of Gaga loads of her songs have clear influences in structure and sound to her own work and that of others i.e BR and Judas Alejandro and the work of Ace Of Base.
Agree with these! Not the rest. I don't think you can rehash a hit without the hit becoming a hit first.
Also,
Everything by Taio Cruz
One Direction - Live while we're Young & What Makes You Beautiful
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend & What The Hell
The Wanted - Glad You Came & Chasing the Sun & I found You
Don't agree with the Beyone Halo & Kelly's Already Gone either. They're maybe similar but definitely not a rehash. I also prefer Already Gone as well though.
me too always preferred that over Halo although i do like halo too

they rush recorded `come into my world` in order to get a similar sounding song on that album following the success of `cant get you out of my head`. i would say that is pretty blatant.
lol, at people saying some similar songs were `deliberate`, while others are `blatant rip-offs`. if two songs sound very similar, were written by the same people and were recorded by the same artists following a bit hit. then the second song recorded is a blatant attempt at rehashing a hit.
The Wanted - Glad You Came -> Chasing the Sun -> I Found You
Duffy - Mercy -> Rain on Your Parade
This thread makes me realize how artists just release the same song over and over again nowadays. It wasn't that common even 5 years ago, but now it's normal and accepted it seems.
The Wanted will land up losing fans if they keep using the same sound. Granted I Found You made number 3, but it dropped like a stone. As it shows....people tire of a sound and its a fanbase buy.
I think now people are taking fewer risks and its fanbases and Bauer that dictate here.
Wet by Nicole Scherzinger, and Only Girl (In the World) have the same chords, just different keys. Both are produced by StarGate. I noticed the first time I heard Wet, which I heard later than OG, they don't seem similar, but the arrangement of the synths is the same.
I guess some people really do stick to a once winning formula.

I think sometimes record labels and artists sometimes specifically go to producers and say "Only Girl was a big hit, can I have a song like that please?".
Other songs that sound like Only Girl are Night of You Life by David Guetta, Turn Me On by David Guetta, Troublemaker by Taio Cruz, S&M by Rihanna.
Only Girl in itself is based strongly off Sexy Chick by David Guetta.
Only Girl - Rihanna > Wet - Nicole Scherzinger > Night of Your Life - David Guetta
Glad You Came > I Found You - The Wanted (It's practically the same song!)
What Makes You Beautiful > Live While We Are Young - One Direction
On The Floor > Dance Again - J-Lo
Cascada went through a Lady GaGa copy phase..
Just Dance > Evacuate the Dancefloor
Poker Face > Pyromania
These are examples of rehashing a hit VIDEO rather than a hit song so slightly off topic but Robert Palmer (RIP) hit on a winning video format and stuck to it for three of his videos:
Addicted To Love - 1986 Girls wearing tight dresses, dancing in unison, wearing bright red lipstick

I'm sure their single after Green Light was pretty similar as well, except they forgot to add in a memorable hook or chorus, which lead to it flopping
Britney wrote a lovely song called 'everyday', she sings it well too. It was never released though because its very similar to Christinas 'beautiful'.
Also Christinas 'make over' from stripped totally rips off the sugababes 'overload'.
The opening part and pretty much most of the song sounds almost identical to Katy Perry's California Gurls.
Robin s second single love for love
basically the same!

Kelly Rowland has just made 'sexy' R&B songs about sex since Motivation in hope they'll do as well (because it was her biggest US solo hit iirc?).
Also Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna (although I love her), Jennifer Lopez, Flo Rida and especially One Direction are very guilty of this.
I guess some people really do stick to a once winning formula.
As soon as I saw this thread I thought of these two
