....But for lack of knowledge, nothing comes close to Richard Bacon who, while talking about the Pope leaving the Vatican on Thursday, told us that 'the Pope has another house,,,somewhere', and said that on the screen he could see 'some sort of honour guard in a strange orange and blue uniform' (a reference to the Swiss Guard presumably). So much for 'inform, educate and entertain'! One out of three is not good enough! Bacon really must go!

More like nought out of three - he doesn't entertain, inform or educate. Truly dreadful, and I wholeheartedly agree he must go!

Just relistened to the post Eastleigh phone in....was hilarious....

NC got really annoyed with that caller when bringing up Cameron quote about Ukip who wouldn't let him say as he rejected it so no point NC shouting it out-

was really good to hear reasonable people just saying they reject trad political parties as they let down people - & despite media attempts to paint as loons & racists they just came across as ordinary disaffected people

Ah relistened to that ipad mother- my mistake..THEY are the childminders...they weren't going to one.. .which makes it worse!
That's how they look after their own... If I had a small one would I leave it there to play zombies vs ninjas??....kill kill!!!

How the hell does that clown 'Savage' keep his job on 606 I'll never know ! ( A footballer running about for an, 90 minutes is hard work ) he make my ears bleed, he really does !

I guess he provokes a reaction resulting in more calls and media attention - someone safe like Michael Owen would make a duller show. I do find Savage a tiresome idiot personally though and tend to switch off when he comes on.

How many years are your going to be bringing that up for?

Come on, to be fair it is a funny story

What annoys me about him is not so much what he says 'cos I can laugh at that but that he won't let anyone who disagrees with him make their point. As soon as they start he jumps in and won't let them talk. He will then keep saying why?, why? why? or similar. Could you imagine him and Green co-presenting?

What the hell has happened to Up All Night??..

Dotun Adebayo wastes his slots with pointless virtual jukebox and the like. It's just pointless.

One of the great mysteries of radio is how this bloke has kept his job on UAN for the years and years that he has. Never, ever takes a holiday and chews words instead of speaking them.

I had the misfortune to hear him on UAN last weekend - I was cringeing with embarrassment with his constant breaking out into song. God knows what his guests were thinking...

What the hell is it with 5 Live on a Sunday afternoon? No live football commentary (thanks to TalkBullsh*t), just endless "chat" with the risible Ian Payne, who comes across as a slightly more educated version of Colin Murray. If this is the best they can come up with why not just drop the focus on sport altogether and give us a decent, in depth news and current affairs programme instead? Only 5 Live could have a sport programme without any actual sport...

That New Yorkers spot is the worst. He spends most of it filling in time by chatting up the women guests.Someone tell me how he gets away with it ?Is this a news station or what ?

As he takes no time off... he is even beginning to sound as though he could do with a long holiday, I don't think he has had a decent break for the last 10 years !

Or do other sport rather than discuss the same old football 'issues' time and time again.

They keep promising to cover less publicised sports but yet to see any evidence of it actually happening....this would have been an ideal opportunity:(

I thought Mike Ingham's commentary on the match this afternoon was excellent.

i was a bit baffled when I turned on 5Live on Sunday afternoon. There was all sorts of sporting events taking place , athletics , rugby , cricket and I listened to a football talk in and there was no mention of these other sports . I actually thought that there might be a problem and they were unable to cover any other sports for some reason. After about 20 minutes they did mention a few other things apart from football , but then just went back to a tedious discussion about Gareth Bale , Theo Walcott etc .

So many non footballing issues to discuss, but they just ignored them. They have specialist football phone ins, and no problem with that, but can't they cover a few other sports

I absolutely agree. I am a football follower, but I find the endless blethering about nothing extremely tedious. I listened to one part of the "discussion", did something else, and came back 30 minutes later to hear exactly the same discussion.

It's time they came up with more comprehensive sports coverage when they don't have football.

On another note, Campbell was in fine form this morning in an item just after 7.00 about the ex- head of the Catholic Church in Scotland. He was asking questions three times, making statements and then not waiting for a response, and constantly interrupting his guest.

It was obvious that his guest was taking time to formulate his answers, but Campbell took the slightest hesitiation as an opportunity to cut across him, with another statement, or to ask another question.

It's disappointing but not surprising that Campbell is not professional enough to structure his interview to get the maximum from his guest, rather than trying to show off his owm "knowledge".

Sorry, what I meant was that the London based stations - and BBC Networks, will often publish figures for the breakfast shows, but rarely other day parts. From the perspective of the mainstream media, breakfast is where the battle is. The media pages sometimes list figures for other shows, if there's a specific press release etc

But generally speaking stations don't give hour by hour breakdowns. So if, for instance, someone was insisting that Five Live did this for Derbyshire, every other station would have to do the same - otherwise you're openly sharing data with the competition.

    Thanks for explaining

What I don't understand is if you subscribe and receive Rajars, does this mean that you get to see everyone elses' figures ?
If so, it doesn't seem that secret

Nicky Campbell likes to hear his own voice on the radio. Remember, it's all about HIM. I've lost count of the number of times he tries to crack an unfunny joke to someone that he is talking AT, who then ignores it. Campbell will then interrupt them and crack the unfunny joke again and if they then still try to carry on he'll repeat it again.

I'm amazed they can fit him, his head and his ego into just one studio at Salford.

Richard Bacon was covering the Queen's visit to hospital and interviewing Nick Witchell. He asked what were the symptoms of gastroeneritis were. Nick said he didn't want to go into details as we all know what they were , but Bacon persisted " No we don't, what are they "

Thankfully Witchell didn't go into details. We are talkng about the Queen , can we have some respect

Yes, David1955, just another example of Bacon's crassness/ignorance. See my previous post (1099) about him. He really is a very poor choice for a prime daytime slot. Don't imagine Christopher Witchell was best pleased about being pressed to go into the symptoms. He comes across as rather arrogant, I'm afraid, but, compared to Bacon, he has something to be arrogant about!

He then said and probably meant they worked hard for an hour and a half but typically didn't put the orginally comment out very well.

    Nothing new though...

    That's just Bacon being "controversial".

5 live can start by using one commentator and one pundit for all football and rugby matches.

And getting WAke Up to Money to deliver a full 30 minutes. The preceeding news and sport should be included in Morning Reports. Some mornings lucky to get 20 minutes.
