How disturbing to see the two main parties in such a cosy authoritarian consensus.

Hopefully the Lib Dems would end the coalition over this. Otherwise it will be catastrophic for their party at the next election.

It's like the Iraq conflict all over again. Rather dodgy lines of argument (and 'sexed up' evidence) used to justify something that we shouldn't be doing. I guess it's up to the Lib Dems to stand against this nonsense again.

Maybe if Labour think this is such a great idea, then the boundary changes might start looking 'interesting' to the Lib Dems.....

It’s sad it should come to that but yes if it makers Labour see sense, otherwise all 3 main parties might as well merge into one.

Agreed. I get the feeling that the usual suspects - spies, authoritarian civil servants and dodgy coppers - are all lining up to get this thing through. Once they are, combined with the argument that it would 'prevent terrorism' or 'save lives', it becomes almost impossible to stop. As someone else mentioned, every single snooping law has been misused in some form... the Cons did a good job rolling back some of the worst stuff - DNA database etc - when they got in, now they're reverting to the default New Labour position. I will vote for the Libs if they torpedo this Bill for good.

    Even MI5 agree!!

'Snooper’s charter’ would not have prevented Woolwich attack, says MI5
Using Drummer Rigby killing to justify extra powers is ‘cheap’, say security chiefs
