..It is also important to realise that in Scotland (with a different legal system to England) there is such an offence as "Breach of the Peace" and you can be arrested, charged, convicted and sent to prison for this crime. It is not a concept, but a crime at Common Law, and is committed when a person, anywhere, acts in a riotous or disorderly manner to the alarm or annoyance of the leiges( other people)

Think they can get up to 12 months in prison for it in Scotland and I found that Scotland are getting tougher with there sentances to combat crime.

If he had put bacon on just any door handle, I would agree. The fact it was done to a mosque is a clear sign of a hate crime. That's what makes it more serious.

More like to wind people up than hate.

10 months is just plain ridiculous, if anything he should have got a caution.

How come it isn't illegal for someone to preach that you will burn in hellfire for being gay but if you leave a piece of bacon lying around you will get 10 months in prison?

    Well said.

It would seem that priorities have become mixed up.

At present society is weirdly obsessed with avoiding any upset to Muslims whatever.

It's just a load of crap.

I've seen times where a bloke was jailed for kicking a cat up the arse and on the same day a fella who assaulted an elderly man who was also a cancer sufferer and beat him almost to death walked free.

Bad comparision given your self avowed hatred of cats.

Both should have received prison sentences.
It's a dangerous path we are on when we can be jailed for "offending" people. It also seems to always be one-way too. The muslim protests I have seen look extremely offensive but nothing is done.

Prisons should mainly be for violent criminals and paedophiles, with the latter having the key thrown away.

    100% agreed.

A conviction for breaching the peace I haven't a problem with, it's the sentence that is ridiculous. An order to get down the mosque and apologise with perhaps a small fine would have been enough.

Yep, that would be the way forward.

I don't think we want a situation in this country where Muslims are given an inflated sense of self importance because the judiciary, and everyone else, is bending over backwards for them ~ the modern equivalent of walking out of the room backwards, bowing as we do so.
