I think ever since Leona Lewis and up to Little Mix, winners all release the first single within the time where the next series of X Factor has started. Therefore their major promotion is the performance of the single on the live shows. But clearly this is not the case for Little Mix, they've been receiving very different treatments than the previous winners have. Their major promotion for the single I think is T4OTB.
I'm not sure if there's any agreement, but I think they are just using T4OTB as a gimmick and a chance to promote the single. Because it is such a huge event, it seems only appropriate for the single to have a big start. Imagine if they had performed Wings on the M&M gig ......... um, no.
