Yeah. I'm relaxing on the sofa with a six pack of beer as the weather does its business.

It's funny that people and the media have just picked up on this. It's been known for a while that we were likely to get 'the beast from the east'. Weird thing is now is that now everyone is talking about it, the 'beast from the east' doesn't look like it's coming anymore.

Shame - the media were just beginning to get their marital aids out over this one.

    "The beast from the East"

I can't believe the tripe I read in the Express about the weather. Today they said that this Winter would be the worst in 20 years. Yesterday they said it would be the worst in 100 years. Yet the Winter of 1912/13 was unremarkable, as was the Winter of 1992/93. If they actually engaged their brains when predicting a mythical severe Winter yet again, it would make more sense to say the worst for 50 years ~ ie: since the actual very severe Winter of 1962/63 !!!

They seem to have completely overlooked the harshest December since 1890, which occurred just two years ago. Yes, TWO years ago !!!

They really do make themselves look like utter idiots. On the one hand they say that the next few days will see -15C, while their official forecast figures on page 2, show forecasted temperatures at various British locations, to be much higher.

They take the lowest temperature which might be seen anywhere in the UK - probably in the highlands of Scotland - but don't say that it doesn't apply to the rest of the country.

I don't mind the rain but am not a lover of the snow and when the pavements are icy. I hope Scotland escapes it but I doubt we will.:(

Well to be fair, the other day the models were showing quite a major cold pool from the east, the trouble is the models are shit looking that far into the future

Yes but it's well known that the Express takes the most extreme prediction for anywhere in the UK - probably not applicable to the vast majority of locations - then uses every factor possible (such as giving windchill adjusted temperatures rather than what would show on a thermometer) to make them sound even more extreme and then implies that this is what we're all going to get. The Express runs stories predicting once-in-a-generation weather conditions on an almost weekly basis and after all this time it's frankly astonishing that there is anyone stupid enough to take them seriously.
