    An American Werewolf in London

That's a good film. I think it was one of the first horror type movies I watched.

.... and Geordie. Good hearted movie, although Bill Travers is an utterly dire actor.

Dead of Night. The original portmanteau horror, inspiring Amicus films, & famously Fred Hoyle........

I had my own little list and then reading through this thread reminded me of more:-

    Rebecca
Random Harvest - not sure whether it's British though
The Fallen Idol - Ralph Richardson film
Everything - A Ray Winstone film that I stumbled across on one of the Sky Arts channels. Excellent film.
    Monty Python's Life of Brian
    Get Carter
    Long Good Friday
Whistle Down The Wind - I could watch that film every day!
    Don't Look Now

I really like a lot of old Julie Christie British movies before she went Hollywood, they seem to get forgotten as does she nowadays actually.

Well like I said before I;m classing it as british. It's written by a British authour and the actors/actresses are British.

An opinion isn't worth anything when the facts disagree with it

It would be like saying Chewbacca comes from Great Yarmouth because that's where Peter Mayhew is from.

Except that Peter Mayhew is from Paulton, just outside Bristol, hence the West Country accent which, *takes a deep breath* IS VERY DIFFERENT TO THE NORFOLK/SUFFOLK ACCENT FFS SO PLEASE STOP PASSING OFF ONE AS THE OTHER IN MAINSTREAM COMEDY SHOWS!

Carry on, I feel much better now.

    wot, no David Lean ?

Ryan's Daughter (my fave, panned by critics. Lawrence, Zhivargo, both long and boring ........).

    Brief Encounter.

    Blythe Spirit.

    League of Gentlemen.

    Green for Danger (minor classic).

    School for scoundrels.

And brilliant adaptions of Great Expectations and Oliver Twist.
There hasn't been a decent British film made for a decade or more.
Mike Leigh and Ken Loach, dreary, uninspiring and over - rated.

    "in your opinion"!

As already posted, there are dozens of British movies made in the last decade that, according to personal tastes, have been brilliant!

    Merry Christmas to all

    :-)
