Apparently been arrested for common assault and being drunk and disorderly yet again. Sadly utterly predictable and not for a moment did his last rehab look like it had solved anything. Attack on his ex-wife http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/paul-gascoigne-arrested-over-drunken-2030796

Just a matter of time before something like this happened

I take no pleasure in saying this but I am surprised this (admittedly) football icon is still alive. People like this are high maintenance and if ever anyone thought he would be cured of his ills by spending weeks or months at an expensive facility in the US.......... Unfortunately, Sheryl will probably come back for more after his being apologetic and crying for 10 weeks!

If Irani is anywhere near him he will be plastering it all over the news. Evans doesnt feel the need to broadcast these things so he could be offering help and we would never know. Unfortunately unless Gazza finds the inner strength to beat it, it doesnt really matter what help is offered.

Exactly Gazza can be offered all the help in the world in terms of Rehab, Self-help groups, tablets etc, but unless he wants to do it, he won't be helped the only person who can stop drinking is the drinker themselves. It is one of the hardest things possible to stop drinking for a physical addict like Gazza as you are fighting your own mind, the brain is telling him constantly to have a drink.

he's always had a few screws loose has gazza, that much was obvious during his playing days with his bizarre behaviour even when sober. its a mental health issue, he's becoming a danger to the public at this point with his latest behaviour, he should be detained under the mental health act and put in a hospital for such people. there is no point giving him addiction treatment when the person is mentally ill, i am amazed that it has still not been recognised as a mental health issue and they are still treating him as they would any other addict, he needs to be put away before an innocent member of the public gets hurt...

"PUT AWAY" !! what planet are you on ? he has mental issues and is an addict, he's not criminaly insane, what will you gain by locking him up.?
Gazza will keep relapsing until he decides to quit drinking. The biggest disappointment is he's still having problems with his ex-wife after all these years, I was hoping any thoughts of Cheryl were in the past because it was in that relationship that things went bad in his life.

he's not going to stop drinking, he's not well mentally and hasn't been his entire life, just look at his bizarre behaviour when he was a footballer. this idea that his problems all started because he misses football or because he split up with his wife is nonsense, he has had a long history of strange behaviour throughout his entire life. he has never got any treatment to address his mental health issues, which is why he is where he is now, treating him for alchohol addiction is a waste of time. judging by recent incidents his behaviour is getting more and more aggressive, someone is going to get hurt if he is not taken off the streets...

He watched his best friend die. His issues started then.

The thing was football gave him a structure by which he could shut all that out rather than deal with it.

No one is going to get hurt if he isnt taken off the streets, he is an alcoholic not a trained ninja. There are many many alcoholics living in this country and they dont need to be removed any more than Gazza does.

Paul Gascoigne is nothing more than a tragic example of the power that alcohol can hold over a person. If you can have everything that he had and still succumb to its powers then its no wonder people with little or nothing are sucked in.

he's had issues with bulimia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he was sectioned under the mental health act in 2008 and taken into protective custody to prevent self-harm, he has also had problems with drug addiction. there was the bizarre incident when he turned up at the scene of the stand-off between the police and raoul moat, claiming to be a friend of the guy. to suggest that gascoigne's issues are purely alchohol related is clearly ridiculous, mental illness is at the route of all of it...

I fully agree with you here, (see it can be done!), why should there be things done to him that wouldn't be done to a normal person?

He is just a very sad case, that could happen to anyone really.

According to the Mirror today he's been drinking for at least a month and its all been filmed for a documentary that was supposed to show his new alcohol free life. I seriously doubt he actually had any rehab as such at his last stay. Seems to have been more of a few weeks detoxing rather than dealing with his problems.

Seem to remember he left that early as well. Didn't the staff say he could go as "they had done all they could". I wondered at the time what that all meant really.

the documentary means he is still being misadvised and exploited.

Just watched the video of him buying gin in an offy yesterday on The Sun's webs site. Shuffling in on crutches and drinking it neat out of the bottle even before he's got his change. Brings home what alcoholism really is. And of course someone selling the CCTV to the Sun and me for watching it.

No it is not. No he is not bipolar, do not believe all you read in the press.
Gascoigne is an alcoholic pure and simple. Alcoholics can have psychotic episodes and be depressed ( alcohol is a depressant) and suicidal, but if they don't drink they are as sane as the next person.
He was sectioned purely for an assessment, forced to go into a hospital as he would not go voluntarily, he was assessed as not having a mental illness and released.

I know this because I am a mental health worker
