Fletch and Fletch Lives

I re-watched Fletch on Film 4 recently. Chevy Chase plays a wisecracking news reporter. It got the whole 80s vibe to it - electronic synth music, big curly hair for the ladies, etc. It's not a particularly noteworthy film - fun, but nothing more. There's the lovely Dana Wheeler-Nicholson as Gail Stanwyck. Plus, there's a pre-stardom Geena Davis. As well, as Chevy's disguises.

Anyone have any thoughts on it?

There's also the sequel. It's sort of a satire on the whole Bible belt South. Interesting, that it was an original story - and not based on any of the books. Also interesting that Fletch gets a new girl(two in fact) for this story.

Well I remember watching it when it came out and being
    incredibly disappointed. I was/am a fan of the books,(and
the spin offs!) but failed to see how the 'hilarious' disguises
had anything to do with the original story?
Never saw the second one, once was enough. In fact I can't
think of anything I have ever seen with Chevy Chase in,that
    was remotely funny!

Sadly, to me, Chevy is only funny in the Lampoons Vacation films.

    Forever remembered as Clark Griswald.

I recorded Fletch the other night, then it started and that absolutely appalling Harold Faulty-Meyer score clanged out of the speakers and I just said I hate that man so much and turned it off. I wasn't much of a film anyway!
