What things have disappeared from every day living?

The milkman hasn't been around my area for a couple of years now.

Rag and bone men on a horse drawn cart have gone aswell ( mainly down to immigrants taking all the metal in their transit vans)

Pop man. We used to have a guy in a van that would come round on a Sunday afternoon and sell bottles of pop.
The flavors were
cream soda
Lemonade
Cloudy lemonade
Iron bru
but he hasn't been around for years and years now.

Can you add any more things that have disappeared from every day life that you remember being around as a youngster?

Saturday evening newspapers with the football and sports results. The Sunderland Football Echo was one of the last surviving examples, it went online only but even that has now closed.

    Smog.

When I started school (1960), the first couple of winters we had really bad smog that was so thick you couldn't see from one side of the road to the other. It was quite scary and disorientating.

When you got in and blew your nose, the stuff that came out was disgusting yellowy-brown colour from inhaling the filthy mix of fog and smoke.

I remember it happening once when I was at junior school, but never since, thanks to the Clean Air Act.

Also those weird turquoise-coloured "invalid carriages", presumably now replaced by mobility scooters and Motability cars.

white gloopy puddings.......sago, tapioca, rice, semolina

haven't had any of them for years

home made rice puddings (with skin.......:D) were always great when I was a kid.......and semolina which you could flavour with cocoa.

The other two were school dinner grub and pretty horrible.......mum never made them at home !

Yes. Blockbusters, choices and independent stores . I remember having to take 2 utility bills to be able to get an account. Browsing those stores were part of my family Friday night ritual.

    Miss them

We used to have a local shop called Wavy Line, which would give out Wavy Line stamps to collect - did anyone else have one, or was it a one-off shop?

    Co-op Stamps

They were like Green Shield stamps but issued by the Co-op.......as you might guess !

They came in to replace the divvy........the 'dividend' that members of the co-operative society got on their purchases.......

    Bus conductors.

    Cassette tapes and cassette recorders.

    Decent pop music.

Experimental and/or cutting edge TV drama (i.e. as you used to get decades ago like "The Singing Detective", "The Edge Of Darkness" and "Boys From The Blackstuff" - they are too ratings conscious these days, so they just play safe now and are afraid to take risks).

I actually found some hedge porn the other day. Dirty bloody builders! I presume they were the culprits anyway as it was on the edge of a building site.
