Been watching the live stream on the Radio 1 website. It's been very good so far (apart from Afrojack) although the streaming broadcast is about 15 seconds behind FM so I can't sync the video and audio up.

They've spent a lot of licence fee money on the lighting !

The whole weekends a total waste of licence payers money to be honest. Why they bother going to the expense of taking the station away to Ibiza for the weekend is beyond me. There are far better events and festivals here in the UK that they could be covereing.

Well it is a very popular gig looking at the large crowd, and the music fits in with their specialist dance and electronic shows. Probably still costs less than Graham Nortons BBC salary !

You could argue the same about the Big Weekend or the old Roadshows. The point of all them is to get Radio 1 out of London to meet its audience and cover the best live music that its audience wants to hear.

Dance music is still an area where R1 has a genuine claim for being the best in the world. While Ibiza isnt as important to dance music (particuarly UK dance and bass music) as it once was, this is still a flagship event

It's not free to get in, so a lot of costs for the actual show are being covered by the ticket paying public.

Then chances are R1s actual DJs (Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Danny Howard) are being taken care of by promoters for other events as opposed to being on the BBC dime. You could probably survive with a radio production team of no more than 4 or 5 out there, for both the evening shows and Grimshaw's show
