Because he is the first active US athlete to do so. I thought that was clear
And again....why is that so noteworthy? Especially here in the UK.....We have gay politicians, entertainers, sports stars etc.....If anyone say's they've come out over here it's almost a bit like 'yeah...and what?'. The only people that it would potentially have a big deal made would be footballers as the football culture is decades behind in attitudes to homosexuality.
I get the point it's an athlete, but by bringing attention to it and saying it is newsworthy kinda defeats the point of homosexuality being seen as 'normal'. As someone with a fluid sexuality I don't want to see people publicised just for being interested in the same gender. Also it's reducing the person in question to being defined by their sexuality, I like to think someone's worth more than being defined by whom they get off on.

I'll get the medal in the post later to him
Why is this newsworthy??? It's just another guy coming out, it's nothing new.
