  Two things
  
  1/ Turn on the pop up blocker in IE

  2/ Try Adblock Plus. There are versions for most of the major browsers, including IE
  
  https://adblockplus.org/en/internet-explorer
  
  I use it in Firefox on both Macbook and Windows 7 laptop. Blocks ads in web pages. But can be turned off for certain sites that you wish to support via advertising such as DS.

  PS - they use windows 7

  Also remove any toolbars, and run a scan with MalwareBytes as this could be caused by malware. http://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
