Tom Holland - Best Supporting Actor (The Impossible)
Liam Neeson - Best Actor (The Grey)
Danny Elfman - Best Score (Hitchcock)
Therefore, on that basis:-
Best Director:-
Tom Hooper - Les Miserables
Ben Affleck - Argo.
Skyfall - Best Picture
Haven't seen Argo, Beasts or Perks yet though
Number of best picture nominations - 10
Number of best director nominations - 5
It's a theory worthy of discussion, but not practical in the current circumstances
D'oh!
I absolutely didn't realise that there were twice the number of movie nominations to director nominations.
Wasn't it 9 nominations?
Yup. This is the ultimate snub in my eyes.
For him to win the BAFTA (which he is the favourite for) having already won the Golden Globe will make The Academy look very silly.
John Hawkes - Best Actor (The Sessions)
The costume designer for Django (apologies for not remembering her name at this time)
That was the maximum amount of nominations allowed, not the amount of people they actually nominated....
Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone (Best Actress)
Nicole Kidman for The Paperboy (Best Supporting Actress)
Samantha Barks for Les Miserables (Best Supporting Actress)
Tom Holland for The Impossible (Best Supporting Actor)
Eddie Redmayne for Les Miserables (Best Supporting Actor)
But there isn't enough room in all the acting categories to include all of those, so they're not really snubs as there aren't many I would take out of the nominations.
They're allowed to nominate 10, this year they nominated 9.
Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master) - Director
Marion Cotillard (Rust & Bone) - Actress
John Hawke (The Sessions) - Actor
Instead crap like a song from ted is in the running..what a farce.
But anyway, this year I was surprised that Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director, and as the awards season progresses it does start to look more and more odd. I can only rationalise it comes from the school of thought his still a relative newcomer to directing and they feel there is time to recognise him later.
The Avengers - Costume Design
My comment was vague, by "that" I meant the numbers darthbibble posted...
In my opinion, other than the AMAZING Hugh Jackman they were the real stars of the film. Samantha's character in particular moved me more than Anne Hathaway...
I agree with Samantha Barks. Her portrayal of Eponine was flawless. Considering she is one of the central characters I feel that she hasn't got the recognition she deserves, even through the press and publicity etc
But on another note...
Ben Affleck, Leo Dicaprio and Tom Holland for me are the ones who've missed out. I thought Tom Holland was amazing
Absolutely. Thought he did a terrific job. Also Skyfall for best picture, one of the best Bonds ever.
I don't think it was because Ben had relatively little experience. Kevin Costner, Robert Redford, Mel Gibson among others all won for either their first or second film that they directed. But, for me, it's a glaring omission that I don't understand.
Kathryn Bigelow - Zero Dark Thirty
The Dark Knight Rises getting zero nominations (big categories fine but no tech noms or cinematography is just insane)
Hell no.
Affleck + Bieglow for BD
Cloud Atlas for Best makeup
