screen keeps going blank......

on my laptop [about 6 months old, windows 8].
it goes black and flickery, though just now it went white and flickery, but everything is still going on behind it - i can still hear you tube etc.
it`s happened about four times in the last week or so and if i restart it goes back to normal, sometimes i unplug the keyboard and it comes back but i think that`s probably coincidence.
am currently updating everything and plan to roll back a month or so once that`s done, any ideas in the meantime please?
