Playback problems

Hi just wondering if anyone can help when I play back my recorded programmes on my Samsung V+ box they either freeze or the picture is poor I have contacted Virgin who said reboot the box and see what happens over the next 24 hours this is my 4th box since August there was different problems with the other ones I would be grateful of any help before I call them back on monday
