Aaaah, now we are getting somewhere, this is all about the girl in the photo! Two men after the same girl. That broke their partnership and friendship

So the father who gave his blessing for his youngest daughter to defy all social convention and marry the chauffer won't honour a witnessed letter of intent written by his eldest daughters dead husband. Seems inconsistent,

But isn't it normal in the upper classes that only the first born counts (unless the first boy comes later, of course).

Sybil was only only no. 3 so her foibles were easier to hide.

I just think his character isn't written very consistently.

Do you think he could be pretending to get a divorce? I'm sure none of them speak German so if he turned up with an official looking paper and claimed it as his divorce papers would Edith know any better (especially as German script of the time was very different).

The little toy dog. I think it was Mary's childhood toy, and she gave it to Matthew to keep him safe when he was off in the war.

seems strange no one asked Anna considering she's been there so long and Braithwaite has only just arrived

Maybe he is, she needs to have a younger man for herself. As an Edith fan I have been waiting for 4 series for this to happen!!!

I suppose it's based on his 'honesty' last week about the nanny. Thomas can do no wrong apparently. Though they should know Anna well enough to doubt it.
