It's about time Pete Mitchell was promoted; he is an excellent broadcaster. His talents are being wasted on those overnight weekend slots.
Bob Harris - yet another specialist show relegated to a unsociable slot (a bit like the weekday specialist programmes that were moved to 10pm and beyond).
I really do feel sorry for Bob Harris' treatment; it's as if Lesley Douglas is gradually pushing him out the door.
Yup, the Walker-Titchmarsh handover is one of the worst on Radio 2. Like I said, it was a bad move by the station bosses to move Melodies for You to 6.30pm. Johnnie Walker signs off playing a Bruce Springsteen track then suddenly, on comes the smug Alan Titchmarsh playing crap records. All of a sudden, Radio 2 is dragged 300 years back in time.
It's usually live as i have rung in and got a mention on odd occasions.However i expect it will be recorded if the 1-4am rumour is true and i think it disgusting that a presenter like Brand should get any airtime at all on Radio 2- Radio's 1or 6 yes.His introductions into the news often make fun of the seriousness of it and i think a trailer should be put in-between the end of the show and the news.I find Russell Brand's humour completely unfunny i'm afraid and to dump Bob to 1am would mean me listening to Radio 2 even less.

Rather like in the 70's/early eighties when David Jacobs Classical show was immediately followed(no news at 5pm) by the top 40 with a sometimes hairraising contrast!.
If Brand must have 3 hours can't Bob do Friday or Sunday night at 10pm?.
In my opinion, 6 Music should be relaunched into "6 Light". The BBC would then have a station that caters for the over 50s. Radio 2 could then transfer the following onto 6 Light
I wish that too. It would be nice of The Beeb to bring back the old Radio Two in the guise of 6Light.
Why do you assume that over 55s want to hear 1950's music?
I'm approaching such an age and would appreciate the choice. As much as I like Gold and Smooth I love music from the 40's and 50's. It would be nice to have a choice.
I listened to Tony Myatt's Smooth London show last night. Total bliss with a great mixture of jazz and mor standards.
Radio 2's gone down hill for me since Jim Moir left.
2 years ago it was probably my favorite. I never listen now. Any of the changes suggested above just make it worse IMHO.
I think Radio 2 reached its peak in 2003. A year later, Jim Moir was gone - and so was parts of the schedule so many people loved. Moir rescued the likes of Johnnie Walker, Alan Freeman, Bob Harris, Steve Wright, Paul Gambaccini, Janice Long and Richard Allinson from the wilderness and brought them to Radio 2. The good thing about Moir was he recruited old favourites and brought talented broadcasters, such as Mark Lamarr, Jools Holland, Stuart Maconie and Suzi Quatro to the network.
Nowadays, Lesley Douglas seems to put big names and celebrities before professional broadcasters. Big names and stars do not necessarily make perfect radio presenters as we've learnt from Elaine Paige, for example.
Not too much change on Sunday except Michael Ball's arriving and JW getting 30 minutes longer.
Saturday's look good until we get to 10pm. I ceertainly hope that we aren't going to get an extra hour of Brand and Bob gets thru' the night - the other way round would be preferable.
I think Russell Brand should be in the Friday night 10.00 to Midnight slot preceding Mark Lamarr. That would mean Bob from 10.00 to 1.00 on a Saturday, as was previously the case.

Good suggestion moving Russell Brand to Friday nights at 10pm. Mind you, Russell Brand would stick out like a sore posterior amongst the depressing Friday Night is Music Night and Listen to the Bland!

Surely it's time for shows like these to be transferred to Radio 3 ? I can understand a "lighter" output Sunday nights between 7pm & midnight but not on a Friday. We need more of a "feel good" sound to Friday nights on Radio 2 directly following on from Chris Evans' All Request Friday.

I can see why Gambo said he was pleased with the changes. Not only does he get an extra half hour he avoids potential disruption from Eurovision, Proms In The Park etc. I wonder of Bob Dylan's Theme Hour is going to get an extended run at 8.00 or whether its going to be a two hour documentary strand?

Looks like the Documentary slot will be broadcast from 7-8 with Bob Dylan from 8-9
What's all the problems with Brand? His show is one of the most successful shows on the station - not to mention an incredibly successful Podcast.
Why do people have to complain about shows when they are obviously not targeted to them - you don't see me complaining about other 2 hour shows that i have no interest in.

If this is true - then I fervently hope the Saturday line-up is wrong. So we lose the excellent Stuart Maconie on a Saturday afternoon and get three hours of that pr1ck Dermott O'Dreary - think I'll be retuning to Virgin and putting up with the iffy AM reception round here.

I'm afraid Stuart Maconie confirmed today that next week will be his last Saturday show.
I agree that Dermot doesn't deserve to get 3 hours. I am glad that Gambo is getting an extra half hour though.

I think the question is not whether the show is succesful or not but whether it should be on Radio 2 at all when the apparent largest audience group listening is below most of the radio 2 target age group.I think it should be on Radio 1 or 6 or a commercial station.Radio 2 should be a distinctively for older listeners as they have so little music stations aimed at them now.The show would do well with Russell's fans wherever it was.

I meant Friday Night Is Music Night & Listen To The Band of course but if they could put Mr. Brand there too I wouldn't complain.
