How does an 11 year old boy know that Christian grey uses cable ties etc?

Just trying to get in the papers probably.

I would have let the boy join in but also call in the parents to discuss why this was completely inappropriate.

Honestly, what is wrong with some people?

Well James Bond is cool and Christian Grey is a bit of a muppet isn't he?

Maybe it's more about taste than appropriateness. Fair do's.

He should not be going to primary school with bondage and s&m tools.

OK kids of that age have heard of the book and movie and seen it advertised, but they don't know the full details.

When his 11 year old female classmates ask him what the cable ties are for, does the boy tell them its to tie up the woman when having sex?

The mother of this boy is a teacher and I think she is naive to think it is OK.

What does it even mean to dress as Christian Grey? Wearing a sharp suit? That could be anyone.

Yeah, nothing wrong with children being linked to BDSM.

To be honest, i'd blame the parents here. They probably thought it was hysterical and because nobody else got the "joke", they went running to the papers.

Yes I don't believe the boy asked to dress as Christian Grey

You obviously haven't even look at it have you.

The 11 year old boy is holding bondage, s&m gear and grinning like Hannibal lecter.

With blindfold and cable ties as props? While the film is out?

I completely agree. They'll dine out on this for weeks.

A grey suit, cable ties and a mask - oooh scary bondage gear.

He could easily have been dressed as Michael Weston

What about the teacher who dressed up as a serial killer? Is that appropriate?

If he was in my child's class and my daughter asked what they cable ties and mask were for and he answered ' to tie someone up and blindfold them then have sex ' I would be furious.
I'm no prude but I want my kids to be kids as long as possible and I don't think there is any need for an 11 year old child to know about bondage.

I was thinking that too. Why would an 11 year old even know who Christian Grey is? I think its the BDSM stuff that the school has a problem with, not the suit.

Strange that you think ANY bondage gear is OK for 11 year old kids.

The mother " said it was deemed "appropriate for a teacher to dress up as a serial killer" and "acceptable for kids to dress up as people that kill others" and "come in with [toy] guns"."

Well she does have a point there!

If my children attended this school I'd have my son dress as Patrick Bateman and my daughter dress as Nurse Ratchet. Then I'd have them ambush little Christian in the corridors and set the little bugger straight. Well not really but my brain did go there. :D

How does a parent explain the very complex and adult concept of bondage to a child ?
At least killers can be explained as baddies in a child's black and white world.

Right so, because it's only mild bondage gear, that's alright?

So the items don't have any other uses then?

Of course they do. But he's not dressed up as a character who uses them for other things. He's dressed up a character famous for buying cable ties for use in BDSM.

I'm usually as open minded as they come and agree with you on a lot, but I'm afraid even I think that an 11 year old dressing up as a character from a book about BDSM is weird.

Haha cable ties, a sleep mask and a suit. It's hardly bondage gear. Maybe just a smart sparky who like a nap.

    Stop being foolish.

The mother and child both say he was dressed as that character. Those items are used in the book and the film for bondage sex.

    The child is 11.

I getting worried about how you view children to be honest. We can't condemn paedophiles and then dress kids up as kinky sex characters 'for a laugh'.
