Yes, it's embarrassing but I can understand why Osborne didn't answer. If they get the answer wrong then they look stupid but if they get it right they either look smug or invite even more questions.
Exactly. He was screwed either way, so he took the route that was least embarrassing overall. IMO it shows a level of political 'nous' sadly lacking in most politicians.
so George didn't put the decimal point in the wrong place it was the Mirror's rather weak attempt at political polnt scoring on behalf of the Labour Party because growth was not as high as forecast. Still when you have Danny Blanchflower in your corner you know you have problems ...................

George Osborne's austerity plan has totally failed and he is the most inept Chancellor ever, writes Professor David Blanchflower 2012
You'd have to say Professor David Blanchflower might be a bit of a chock.
A bit pointless allowing anyone to ask any questions then, as the next question might be more difficult. Why even bother turning up?
IMO, He was looking for a photo opportunity and realised it could go horribly wrong if he answered incorrectly and panicked.
But then telling the truth can get you into trouble too,
Sarah Palin when asked about Russia said you could see Russia from land here in Alaska, which is true. Alas for Palin a "comedian" did a parody of this saying (as Palin) that you could see Russia from her kitchen. It is the parody that is often incorrectly attributed to Palin

So all in all George was right not to fall into this potential trap .......
Which just repeats my original question, why agree to answer questions if you aren't going to answer questions? Better to stay safely tucked away in your westminster bubble where the people asking you questions don't expect them to be answered (and are too busy booing and hissing to hear anyway).

He would have never been able to answer it as a UK politician.
I think he did not answer because he did not the answer.
"Can the Prime Minister tell my why I have lost the support of my voters and 43% of them think I should be replaced?"
Just as long as Ed doesn't ask about percentages. He thinks a rise from 353,000. to 939,000 is an increase of 300% when it is actually 166%.

And remember a few months ago when he thought 250,000 and a quarter of a million were different:

Wrong, it doesn't matter what the question is Cameron won't answer it
Still, if it had been me I would have stood up and shouted at him "What are the 39 steps?".
Haven't seen his mug on the telly much lately, but then again, that's probably down to him having to revise for his O levels
Why is the question wrong? It still would not stop Miliband asking it. I also believe in this instance Cameron would give him an adequate answer.
Guess that's the effect of his poor education - if only he had gone to Eton...
If anyone is wondering what that about, from the Daily Mirror
